Thanks for the clear photos and captions. I moved to New York June, 1973, so didn't get to see the elevated lines shown here.

I remember Hearns. We used to shop there and at Alexander’s. My mother was a cashier at Alexander’s. I also remember a restaurant/bar called Harry’s Hub. They used to have free pretzels and pickles to get you to buy drinks. Does anyone remember the gum machines on the train platform? You could buy a piece of gum for a penny.

IF the 8 Third Ave Elevated line wasn't torn down the R62AS would of definitely fit on the 8 Third Ave Elevated line right now to replacing all the R12 R14s on this line. That's the reason why they have the 8 signs on the R62AS. The 8 Third Ave Elevated line is definitely popping up like crazy like ever before on you tube right now each and every day.

Imagine if the Third Avenue EL was still there to this day besides the fact that the Bx15 route wouldn't be the way it is today

That bus bx15 it's as long as a transatlantic flight. What a waste of time and desperation.

It would be better than the bx 15 ride...omg
@leecornwell10623 жыл бұрын
@@zestcres You are not lying about that. The BX 15 and 41 buses are not getting there any faster then the 8 3rd Avenue elevated line to meet the 2/5 trains. It is 100% worser then the 8 3rd Avenue elevated line. It is dead. They should of left the BX 55 buses and the old 3rd Avenue line Alone instead of tairing it down. All they had to do is to check the trestle s frames and beams and stations rails track s this would not be this biggest issues.

Every body is still disappointed from this day when they were protesting not to tair this line down.

@@leecornwell1062 They wind up taking down on purpose because Robert mosses could not stand extra elevated lines. Robert mosses wanted people to drive there cars to work and back home 🏠. If they wouldn't have never taking down this 3rd Avenue Elevated line people would not be driving their own cars to work and homes clinics schools and business churches. Give them a real reason to leave there cars home. They don't have the 3rd Avenue Elevated line anymore because theres no subway in south Bronx anymore. It's completely dead over there. They torn it down like a dam fool. The 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line really really helped out the 2 5 trains and took people from point A to point B in the whole entire community in the south Bronx and the BX 15A Bx26 buses back then.

These are fond memories for me of this line..& sad at the same time! This line never should have been removed in the first place! It's hard to get to Bedford Park from the Grand Concourse & the Jerome Avenue line now I have to take a crosstown bus.The Bronx 55 failed , The Bronx 41 & The Bronx 15 overcrowded, annoying, slow & inefficient! Lost ridership?! Well it sure increased after 1973 to the present! Third Avenue is DEAD! It's too hot in the summer I hate itl! I remember riding my road bicycle thru the old line and grew sadness! I hope the NYCTA is happy they tore a vital line away from the Bronx! And after 1977 when then Mayor Abe Beame destroyed the remainder of this historic line! I hate this every time I visit the Bronx especially from 149th Street , 156th Street, Claremont Parkway, Tremont Avenue, Fordham Road...but my most pain and giveaway is Gun Hill Road I have a special place there! What was done to that station is sad no lower level where the platform was! Of all the IRT it was supposed to have a 999 year lease laws were broken! Damnit I wish they rebuild it back up! This is as disgusting as the closing and destroying the Culver Shuttle in Brooklyn, New York Damn you MTA!

Agree...now the 2 and 5 lines are overcrowded...this would of been an alternative to get downtown much faster!

Why do they think that they are rebuilding the second Avenue line back up?. They should of left the 2nd and the 3rd Avenue elevated line s alone. These both lines is definitely important to every body this would of been connected right now . This is very very terrible right now. Alots of good things is about to pick up I'm telling you.

That EL from 149 st to Fordham road was so decrepit they had limit the trains to 4 cars and block several notches in the motorman’s controller.

Amazing that this train line served so many of the students who attended my high school! We were lucky that it was not taken out of service until the year after we all graduated!!!! I could not believe how fast every day all the students disappeared after the 3:00 o'clock bell sounded! Lol!!!!

They are so many ideas that people put it on a different station that what kind of how do you say your experiment from the past present well it didn't make it for the future but at least that everyone got some pictures videos and trains to remember that day of work was used to be for the past present and to see or everything well it's not a history but it's still have a station stop each one of them but it looks great on every different trains on it

So amazing that I historic of a pictures that I could tell of a story that many of the Bronx people that can't do that even notice that there used to be a train line right there on well the old neighborhood and sometimes that has been done in the past it was location the president was Bill and for the future but many people already move on something about it sometime. I had to take it out because it is not that popular and sometimes even worst people of Maycomb get accidents at even younger people as well that it's the truth everyone

Meaning of people that are on the L train was forgotten Bahrain what is connected to well Manhattan but sometimes that many people that they don't realize it that the L train never what destroy it was always still there connections well today right now is the 2 and 5 train connection now you already know everyone the L train never what destroy is always been there of a connections by the disconnect what forgot about it but many people notice that is still there today because the L train is connected to number 2 in the 5 train and the 5 train connected to the L train right there was used to be but maybe people aren't they don't realize it how they going to be like it like something that is always been there so now you already know

That really was called the number 8 trains. On the 3rd Avenue elevated line. Ass we all know the L trains ran in Brooklyn still running in Brooklyn Not the Bronx. Only the irt 8 line served this 3rd Avenue line in the Bronx . The R14s had the Shuttle signs instead of the 8 signs.

I'm glad that the R62as has those Green 8 signs instead of the baby blue signs. Maybe when the brand new R262/as comes for Cbtcs they will have those computer signs that has 1 through 24.
