The only things I wish we had in gen 2 was push button start and the “smart” door handles for unlock/lock.

Power rear window, SR5 trip computer (that screen in the middle of the gauges on 3rd gen that shows distance to empty, est mpg, tire pressure, etc), and the touch screen head unit. Also the key/fob combo instead of key+fob.

You don't want the Qi charger. I have it on my 3rd gen. Super slow, and when I have it on and stream music, or run the phone at all, it gets super hot.

I had a 2016’ 3rd Gen Taco and it was a manual slide Then I had a 2017 and 2018’ 3rd Gen Tacos and those were both electronically opened. And I really didn’t use the IQ quick charger due to it had a hard time charging thru my phone cover. One option I bought for my 2018 was the front facing camera before I traded it in for a 2011 FJ, but come this I’m jumping to the Gladiator, love my past Toyota’s but this one Jeep looks like it will do a very good job with camping in hard to get places.

Blindspot monitoring is part of the technology package and is an option. Projector low beam optics allow HID or LED bulbs to keep the sharp cutoff and not blind oncoming traffic. Hi beam has no limiting optics and can blind oncoming traffic but even halogen bulbs do that. QI charger is slower than a snail, just plug it in and get a real connection, they might work over night at home but for in the vehicle it is a waste of space and are only on when the engine is on making it even less worthy.

I'm with Robert there, the QI charger is slow and over heats your phone. As for the rear power window I've used it twice in 2 years, and yes you can forget and leave it open very easily. Both are a waste of money. The blind spot monitors are ok as long as you don't tow anything, then you have to shut them off or they fault out and you get the idiot light on the dash. The locking tailgate is probably the one thing I really do appreciate. So hope that makes you feel a little better about what you think your missing. Happy Trails!!!

Even my 5th gen 4Runner doesn't have the blind spot assist or blind spot mirrors. I had to add Rav4 stock mirrors to get blind spot mirrors, pretty simple stuff you think a 40K+ vehicle would come equipped with

It’s nice to open the back window as I drive my ‘19 ORDCLB. It helps draw air through the vents without running the fan or ac. It’s also a lot quieter than dropping the side windows. I occasionally use the charger if I need a little juice but for no more than 20-25 minutes. The BSM and backup camera have been helpful since this is the largest vehicle I’ve had since my gen1 4Runner.

I added a qi wireless charger to that location on my 2nd gen and it's nice and tucked away, all you see is a USB cable plugged into my lighter port. I took off that center console and shaved that area down in the underside and mounted the charger there and it works through the plastic with no probs

The Qi wireless charger in my '19 Taco doesn't get used because I have to take the phone out of its case for it to take a charge, so I just store the phone and my wallet in the space, and use a USB-C cable for charging purposes. I also don't open the rear sliding window. Haven't used the radar cruise control yet, but the collision detection and lane departure warning systems work just fine. Agree that the blind spot monitoring is nice. However, I did like the headlight pattern and brightness of my previous '12 Taco versus the projectors on the new one.

I have a 2014 DCSB OR. I have seen a locking tailgate that can be integrated with the keyfob at a a Leer camper shell store. I am cheap and lazy so I went with the regular one. Another thing the 3rd Gen has is the trailer light connection integrated in the bumper. I just cut a hole in my bumper and moved it up. Didn’t want it to get ripped off hanging low.
@Tacomaholic

Totally agree about all the modern "safety" features just making drivers lazier. But Blindspot would be nice. I know there are after market kits out there, but there is something about a factory designed feature. AS for the the powered rear window. You just need a small kid you keep in the back. Thats how mine opens and closed on demand :-)

I never use my Qi Charger. My phone supports it but I always have my phone in the Ram X-Grip. Regarding the BSM. If you have plans to install a steel bumper you lose the BSM. I don't know of any aftermarket steel bumper that supports BSM.

I have the 3RD Gen Taco, it's a 2018 I bought in January of 2018. It did not come with blind-spot monitoring. My friend bought the same truck a couple months later, his came with them. He hates them. Especially because the bumper is plastic, he has hit his bumper twice and it has messed up the sensor. QI charger sucks, I just use that spot for storage. My headlights suck, they are not LED. I do love the electric sliding back window, I use it constantly. I just had to remember to close it when I first got my truck. Otherwise, I love my truck. ;)

Have you thought about doing a manual transfer case swap? I converted my Prerunner to a 4x4 and that required me to use a manual t-case which some say are better because they are not electrically controlled. You can also dual shift the t-case too. Lo to hi and 2wd to 4wd separately.

I own a 2017 Trd 4x4 OffRoad DCLB and it has the Qi charger. I used it maybe twice and the nonslip material has bubbled up away from the charger, now it is out of commission. The weight of my phone does not compress the bubble. Basically the adhesive has worn off and the material has made a hump in the center of the Qi charger. Haven’t taken it to toyota yet, i guess i should.

If you have an outterbox on your phone, it may or may not charge with the QI charger on the third gen. Even if it does charge, it's SUPER slow and gets very hot, even if I remove my phone from its case. Imo, it's worthless at best for a charger, however, I do keep my phone and wallet there due to the grippy surface. BTW this is on an 18 Cav Blue TRD Pro. So I'd have to assume that all models with that charger would behave the same

The Qi charger is borderline useless. It overheats and shuts off. I've been thinking for a while about installing a small fan under it to see if that helps, but I have a PITAKA mag case and mount for my phone on a Hondo mount and honestly like that better anyway, so my Qi charger gets used as a PopTart holder. BSM isn't standard; it's available as a part of the tech package for the TRD line. It is, however, a useful feature. I have a 2017, before they put all the OTHER safety crap on it, and I'm very happy that I don't have the rest of TSS and only have the BSM. I didn't think I'd like it, but I haven't replaced the rear bumper yet solely because I want to keep the BSM system now. Locking tailgate is standard, but the Pop-n-Lock is optional (easy install).

Have a 2021, 3rd gen TRD Off-road, and it sucks. Under powered, gas guzzler for a mid size. Guess I just miss driving Hilux versions. Ditching it soon. Too many electronic "safety" features. I want to drive, not go for a ride. Edit: Qi charger is overrated. Over heats devices before they can charge. Power window is nice. However, wish I could get it with metal in place versus a window. Power tailgate lock is nice.
