I am returning back to math and feel like I am getting no help. This was SO helpful, thank you so much!!!! I am crying because for once, I can get my life back together. Not knowing what you are doing as a teacher is the worst.

What does it communicate to students about their abilities that you pull kids in small groups away from others?

I love the Kaboom! Do you put the correct answer on the back of the stick so it helps students know if they are got it correct or not?
@alexiswelch85822 жыл бұрын
I don't. This isn't something I have "figured out". Usually one of the students playing the game will know the answer. If not, they know to come and ask me.
@rosebaldwin41243 ай бұрын
Maybe the student they are playing with can enter the problem on a calculator or they can trade a multiplication table and check each other…

How do you decide what each group does or who is on each group?
@alexiswelch85822 жыл бұрын
Hi! I usually use assessment data to create groups. I take a recent assessment (CFA, Summative, or Formative), analyze the data and construct groups.

What I enjoyed the most was your honesty. As teachers, we are all a hot mess at times. My students are usually so needy, I can never finish a small group since I keep getting interrupted. This is my fault because I do not correct the situation, but instead assist the students who interrupt me. I have been teaching for over 10 years and still have so much to learn.

I loved your video and want to apply this to my 3rd grade classroom. I just have a question about the application work and the skill of the week. The application is what you taught that day correct? We are doing fractions at the moment, but teach a different day daily, so I am assuming the skill of the week does not have to be fractions? Help!
@alexiswelch85822 жыл бұрын
Yes- application is what I taught that day. The skill of the week is anything they know how to do independently.
