1:01 can someone explain to me why the rook and the king move at the same time? I'm just starting.
@InvalidationX1454 жыл бұрын
That is what one calls "castling" - it is a move of switching places of your king and one of your rooks, provided the following conditions apply: -there are no pieces between your king and the rook you want to castle with; -your king and the rook have not been moved yet during the game; and -your king is not in check and would not end up in check as a result of the castle. I've seen variations on how the actual castle is performed, but the standard seems to be rook and king meet in the middle, and then one square past each other (not totally accurate, but it's the best way I can describe it as a mediocre player). It's a move used both defensively (getting the king out of potentially sticky situations) and to force the opponent to make a move after they've had a setup for the beginning/middle game where a different choice would likely result in losing a piece. Of course, I've seen a couple instances where someone castles and that puts their opponent in check because of the rook, but that's a rare instance. Hope this helped :D

Great game!! Happy to finally see what was going on the other side of the table from yesterday's video with Carlini and Cesar. Lots of questions, though: I don't get this final Black knight takes White king move; that's legal in Coffee Chess? When would this ever happen, since a king in check always has to first get out of check? Why did Noah move with his King in check, I thought that's an illegal move? And why was Duck's final move left out of the on-screen chessboard graphic? Which other Coffee Chess games show the king being taken to win the game? I had a lot of fun watching this game :) note - i'm only now getting to the analysis portion of the video
@InvalidationX1454 жыл бұрын
You're correct; in normal tournament chess, Duck would have to call "check," and Noah would have to move his King out of check or be flagged for an illegal move. And with the program used to show the moves of the game, it cannot show illegal moves, because they're, well, illegal. But this is Blitz, a game of chess where each player has five minutes TOTAL for all of their moves, their time counting down when it's their turn. And In Coffee Chess' version of Blitz, the additional rules are as follows: -players do not have to call check; -if an illegal move is played and the timer hit, and the opponent calls it out before hitting their timer, the player who played an illegal move automatically forfeits; -if the illegal move would result in a player's king remaining in check, the opponent is free to take the king (similar to previous rule, just a more fun/victorious way of declaring illegal move); -if one player performs an illegal move and hits the timer, and their opponent does not declare it by the time they play their move and hit the timer, then the illegal move is considered okay and the game continues. *On occasion, Touch Move rules will be agreed upon to be implemented by the players, where if you touch a piece you have to move that piece as your turn. There are plenty of games where this is not implemented, like in this video. There are dozens of videos (honestly, probably hundreds at this point) where someone has won by taking the opponent's King in the fashion shown in this video. There are many videos where illegal moves have been played as well, from Queens moving diagonally to a square they could not have gotten to, to checks being missed by both players, to illegal castles, and so on. But oftentimes the game ends up being played so fast that sometimes players forget details or miss certain things, and that's okay. At the end of the day, it's a game, being played by friends for fun. And that's the most important thing.

Noah moved his queen while his king was in check, in common 5 minute you are allowed to take the king, and for any others questioning you do not have to announce check. A player should at all times know when he is in check but then chess is an emotional game of art and war

Woooow, this is so cool. This is a move that you can pull off in live on-board blitz games. If Noah had more time to see what's going on, knight promotion wouldn't make sense. If it was online, even a blitz game, the computer wouldn't allow the Qc8 move. Only here it could be done. And who else if not the quiet mind-game master! gg!
