he's carrying them. this band in 2014 is no better than the one he had when he toured in 1979-1980 doing "Bambi" . 35 years later - he's simply bored w/ it. Sad. 2 years later we know what happens.

Musically they may well be below the abilities of his best bands. But he put them together and had built them to that standard. It's hard to know without knowing the man himself but as a fan watching his performances from 1998 to 2014, he never looked happier than performing in 98 with Chaka & Larry. A close second is how happy he looked with 3rdEyeGirl. Their gigs are the highlights of his last decade, just as the One Nite Alone tour is the highlight of the 2000s musically. He was getting his Sly/Jimi on with 3rdEyeGirl and it was fantastic to watch. I personally think he was fulfilling a desire before his time was up.
