Great progress! Compared to what I've heard some other have gone through to get their R&P conversion done, that seemed pretty straightforward even with the modifications. And on that note, from what I've heard the folks at Xcessive are good people and would probably appreciate constructive criticism. I know they made some modifications to parts in the past based on feedback from others in the 1st Gen Celica community. Always annoying when something is advertised as a drop-in solution and isn't, but glad there's support for these cars at all. Thanks to yourself and others who share their experiences with these swaps we can all learn and improve methods and parts. Can't be mad at that!

I took the steering column and joints from the MR2 that I sourced the steering rack and hope to cobble them together to basically do what the Excessive kit does....we shall see.

If you watch speed academy's video of "Connie" they dive deep in steering shaft mods, and find out there are collapsable sections epoxy'd in place. There is also a sleeve with ball bearings on it. The theory is that everything is solid in place, but incase of an accident the epoxy seperates and the shaft "telescopes" so you don't end up with a face full of steering shaft final destination style.

I had the same issues with the Xcessive steering kit. Needed to modify the OD of the bushing, as well as touch up the flats (just a bit as you said) to fit into the u joint. I also had a bit of squeak in the wheel after the bushing installation. I have been trying to work some grease in there, but the fit is pretty tight. However, similar to you, once I had everything fitted and the shaft to the right length, everything seems smooth and ridged, and I definitely don't think an additional heim joint is required. Also, it that the SurFab LHD headders? I have been waiting for someone to test fit them to see how they work before I purchased... Last question, to use those headers, I assume the stock water neck definitely won't work and that's why you moved to the JSP unit? Anyway, keep up the good progress, you will be passing me in progress soon (if you haven't already LOL).

So glad you guys are figuring out the steering stuff and sharing it before I get to mine, haha. Definitely appreciate the info you both have shared. The header appears to be the Secret Factory USA unit based on the primary routing and V-Band at the collector. Super nice piece, it's what I'm planning to go with as well.

I had the same problem where the shaft did not fit in the U-joint and the Sent me a replacement with a return label for the wrong part to ship back.

Mine just arrived in the mail and it fits up tighter due to the paint but overall ok. I made sure to call them before I ordered and ask about this issue. They seemed cooperative and told me that there were some supplier quality issues in the past. Hopefully my other products from them work out alright. The video and comments are much appreciated.

It’s coming along well. Who made those headers? I’ve been planning to just modify the factory ones to fit around the steering,

Found someone off of IG that made a small batch of 10 of them. It's a 8 outa 10 over all. The flange wasent 100% flat.

@@Bye401K That's cool. The only one I've seen for LHD is what Speed Acad used, which they had custom made. I need to get my Toyota Corona out of the way so I can get started on my RA29 3SGE asap.

@@Bye401KWould you mind sharing their info? I’m searching for headers now, but not having much luck

@@zachosaurus They only make a small batch of 10. I don't think there making any any more.
