You can place buttons elsewhere you just have to set a repeater at 4 ticks and it has to power the redstone that was supposed to be powered by button. (Java 1.19.2) Hope it helps :D

Hey! This design DOES work, but (if you’re on a server) you have to set the top 3 repeaters to 4 ticks instead of 2!

It works just fine with 2 ticks for me. Are you playing on a server? That sometimes makes a difference.

if you put redstone repeater one block next to of single piston (that with one redstone on top of piston) (repeater is towards redstone torch) it should work... I have buttons somewhere else, but it works everytime :).....and as Gezz said above, put 4 ticks on the upper 3 pistons (no longer dissapearing blocks)....Shortly said, you need more power signal on the upside down piston, and it doesn't matter where you put buttons (or levers)

Got it to work on server. Design works for single player but for server I replaced the normal pistons with sticky pistons and changed top repeaters to 3 ticks, might work with 4 as well. The one design that passed while the other 3 I found failed. Pog design

A quick simple fix for moving buttons elsewhere is moving the observer and piston one more block to the right so that it isn't in contact with the torch. The redstone will then still run over the piston into the block below the torch but it doesn't get stuck! Hope this helps :)

For anybody in like 1.20+, if your sand is breaking just change the top repeaters from 2 ticks to 4 ticks (max ticks).

I've found that buttons can be placed in other locations the problem is that the piston pushing the observer down isnt being updated and gets stuck as active so to fix this I wired it up to a piston beside it so when I hit the button that I placed in a different location the extra piston I wired would also activate and not get stuck retracking and updating the piston causing the problem... (the only problem with this solution I've found is that you cant wire more than 16 blocks out of the piston that pushes the observer down because adding an extra repeater screws with the timing making the sand brake and redstone signals only last 16 blocks before needing that extension)

It's np problem at all! Many people has rhe issue of breaking sandblocks, which meant I actually spend a lot of time updating and testing the door. I'm so glad that so many people find it helpful!!!

weirdly, I made this in my (1.20.2) survival but paused to change where the buttons were. After a bit of fiddling with repeater ticks and redstone lines to the buttons, I got it to work. I then tried replicating it on a different wall and can't get it to work. The working one is going north/south and the one that isn't working is east/west, not sure if that matters, but a door I was looking at previously apparently only worked in one direction. It could just be my redstone incompetence, I already messed up the tutorial a couple of times by missing blocks despite watching the video while building :) Edit: I got it to work by putting the redstone on the block at 4:34 (next to the piston) rather than on the block above then using a block staircase to bring the redstone up into the block with the button on the side of it.

@@CreativeGamingDorthea I might have fixed it, or at least it started working for me. I've moved the block next to the piston and observer down one block so it's on the same level as the piston. Basically I put the redstone on the block at 4:34 rather than the one above it. I still need to make it two more times, so I can check if it still works, in case someone wants to make this door and wants to move the buttons as well. Edit: It worked for all 4 of the doors I made

Not sure if you learned this in the 6 months since this video but the reason for the button problems is cause the pistons get stuck so a fix I found for that is at 4:36 instead of a block diagonally you can place a slab directly next to the piston and that will fix it, you can have the rest be full blocks and be the same as in the video, the only difference is just replacing the block with a slab and putting it next to the piston thing. But anyway this is a cool design that is expandable in the one direction + it can even be flipped and put back to back to create a 2 block thick sand door.

in my case it worked only with the top repeaters being on 4 ticks, any other delay destroyed 3 sand blocks
