Green chef is awsome since I am out in the field working on houses and my wife being a High School English teacher is worn out in a different way. Meals are well planned and come together quickly. For some reason I can't straight comment, but as usual you ROCK! Love all your videos! A thought....I kinda wish you to slow down and show use on tools etc such as domino but understan since this is a huge project and lengthy. Also waiting for new videos. Top fan.

I was once a young boy with a mom who was an ace with a table saw. Her shop wasn’t nearly as well fitted out as yours. But her mentorship with my interest in woodworking was so important for me. She taught me plenty about wood and tool use, and also taught me to not be an obnoxious male know-it-all when brilliant women can show me how much I have to learn. I wish you were my next door neighbor. I’d be looking over your shoulder all the time. You’d probably get tired of that. Great teaching.

Those who have never made a mistake, never made anything. When I did my apprenticeship, one of my tutors taught me ‘it’s not a mistake, until you can’t fix it’. We always try to do things right, but sometimes we need to employ a work around to make it right. Adding domino’s was the extra step, possibly not needed, but got yo to where you were happy with the build quality.

@mountainlightwoodcraft
@mountainlightwoodcraft 11 ай бұрын
Tamar, you always create such wonderful projects, and, like the rest of us, you make mistakes and have to fix them. Great job! Great ASMR! I employ a simple trick to hide the end grain that is inevitable on butt joints such as your bed rails: Cut the ends of the overlapping piece at 45 degrees, and then cut off a small piece that is also 45 degrees and only as long as the board is thick that will serve as a return. That way, it appears that the grain runs continuously as long grain all the way around the butt joined pieces. Takes two minutes and ups your game to the next level. Keep 'em coming, Tamar!
@3x3CustomTamar
@3x3CustomTamar 11 ай бұрын
Interesting... I think I am imagining this correctly... Then there would still be a break between the 2 pieces, like a false miter?
@mountainlightwoodcraft
@mountainlightwoodcraft 11 ай бұрын
@3x3CustomTamar A visible break, of course, as it is still a butt joint. However, at least this way, the grain runs continuously all the way around the perimeter. You never encounter end grain visually. For the best grain matching results, cut your "miter wrap" pieces from the ends of the adjoining pieces and not from the ends of the perpendicular piece that gets 45-deg cuts on both ends. This way, it will more closely resemble a picture frame joint without the problems associated with delicate "knife-edge" joints on big heavy boards. Try it next time. Takes 5 minutes to employ, and the inside cut 45 at each end has no effect on your target dimensional length.

Agrew, that finish color looks great, love the walnut accent as well. Great work on the design and final product!

Nice video. That was a complex build, but you did an amazing job. I only glanced at the other comments, but was surprised you didn't get more negatives on using the dominos. That seems to be the most controversial tool on youtube these days. It was good and motivated me to go down in the basement and start on my false desktop (so I can hide the mess!)

Wow Tamar I guess it's been a while since I've seen your videos. Your work shop is like wow. I remember seeing you telling us where stuff was going to go. So many new shop tools now maybe that's part of why it only took less than two weeks to build. Great job once again.

That's great Tamar. So many steps! Simpatico for your mistake, but great solution found. I normally have to go for a walk when I do stuff like that. Well done!

I know you look for fun and interesting challenges. I'm finishing up a backgammon board that folds into a small suit case. It is a smaller project, you have worked on mostly large projects. It does have plenty of interesting parts. Creating a template to cut out the triangles, I used wood and epoxy. I have pictures along the way. I'm happy to email them to your business account if you want to see how I approached the project. I'm curious how you would approach it. Thanks for all the project videos!

Got a bunch for you here. First of all, welcome back, miss your videos. No pressure. You confirmed what I have tried to explained to people. That fiished with color added do not soak into the wood like stains/dyes. And in regard to dyes, I think they work so much better than stains. I don’t see any lighting under that floating frame? He didn’t want any LEDs? LOL In regards to poplar, I have had great success with using stain on it. Every says to only paint it. All the woodwork and doors in our house are poplar, and it is all stained. Looks great. Bed look really nice. And the walnut shelves add a nice touch.

Thanks so much! I'm focused on these bigger projects now, so I am aiming for 1 video a month.... And no LEDs... Ha. They would be cool, but just not my thing.
