When this video first came out, I said it would be nice to be able to just buy this and Tamar hinted that something might be coming. When it was announced I immediately pre-ordered it. It arrived a few days ago and it is everything I hoped it would be. My router work is going to make a giant keep forward. Just fabulous!

First, this is the coolest, most "why didn't I think of that" jig I've seen. It should be patented and brought to market. Second, your "I'm not a professional and don't pretend to be" presentation is refreshing. Your willingness to experiment and try something new on camera regardless of the outcome is inspiring to the rest of us. You are fearless. Keep up the great work and look forward to the next video.

Why do I always come back to you and why do I always settle on your approach amongst all the other variations on every theme/jig on youtube? For several reasons. First is research. You always make yourself familiar with what is out there. Second is thoroughness. You always completely master the topic before you present it. Third is completeness. The videos always finish with a clear demonstration of how you use the jig in the real world. Fourth, plans! Almost without fail you put together well documented instructions. The perspiration that you give to everything is amazing. So easy to talk about, so damn hard to execute. Good lord Tamar. They are so easy to follow and so succinct. It almost makes me forgive your funny accent(jkaaaaaaay!!!!). Fifth is you always find a way to add your own special touch and raise the bar for everyone else. I made your crosscut jig. To this day I have not seen it eclipsed. Sixth is presentation. Flawless. You show your mistakes as well. At least the ones that you feel some needs to be aware of. And finally you just being you. We have all watched you grow. I raised 5 children. I know what it is to split time between your passion and the things you hold most dear. Good luck to you. Noone wants to lose you here but you know what comes first.

The only drawback I see to this jig is using Acrylic. Acrylic is easy to crack. Lexan (polycarbonate) would be a better option. Though slightly more expensive.
@bobd.
@bobd. 3 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing when she said acrylic. Lexan (brand name) or similar product would be a better choice. The difference in price you won't even think about when that acrylic goes flying all over the shop.
@russmartin4189
@russmartin4189 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobd. I chose polycarbonate because I had just bought and cut a bunch of it for security windows. I had a 1" strip 72" long and thought I would just bend and snap it into small pieces to discard. I bent it 180 degrees and it still didn't snap. It is very tough stuff. So, when it came to making this jig, it was a no brainer what I would use. Acrylic is good for picture frames, polycarbonate for anything that is going to be "used and abused and might crack.

Do any of you guys who know what you're doing remember how confusing it was hearing for the first time words and terms like "edge -banding", "designing a custom jig", "free hand routing"? Very much appreciate this lady Tamar, her patient, measured pacing and simple yet complete directions take the mystery out of much of this and instill confidence. I'm now very confident my first project will come out very nice and be the first of many. Thank you for NOT making this on the router table! I have minimal tools, and it leads frustrated me when people do how-tos for jigs using a tool that’s more powerful than the tool it will be for. Like, I don’t have a table saw; that’s why I need a jig for a circular saw. And I don’t have a router table; I only have t rim router, so thank you for showing how to make it using the trim router. And this is simply brilliant. So ingenious. You’re my hero.

I've been trying to decide what sort of Jig I wanted to build for my trim router and thanks to you, I have found it. Great design, there's just so many different things you can do with it. It easily takes the place of having to build multiple jigs. I really like being able to cut circles with the jig and not having to drill a pilot hole in the finished piece. Fantastic job and great video showing it off. Keep up the good work.

I just built this using your very clear and easy to follow instructions. As a complete router newb probably a bit ambitious but after a couple of wobbly cuts I got the hang of it and it turned out great!! Newb tip : print out a few copies of the stencils as I found they get a bit chewed up so had to re stick the stencil a couple times and..... work slowly. I found 2 or even 3 passes on the router cuts made it easier. Now for the Dado jig thingy! Got a big project coming up that requires some routing expertise and so happy I found your channel! Nice work you.

This is a very well thought out system! And this is coming from a guy who'd rather spend more time dreaming up and making jigs than doing the actual job its self! My only critique isn't about the jig its self but about the way you measured the set up for cutting the circles. When cutting circles you actually have to divide by two when setting up the bit because the pivot point is in the middle of the circle. In other words to cut a 4" circle you'd measure out 2" from the pivot point.

@@3x3CustomTamar Yeah when you said 4" circle I was surprised when you set the radius at 4". It sure looked like an 8" circle when you got done! Building drums as a side line "hobby" I'm very familiar with circle layout, so I noticed that right away! Whatever! My intention wasn't so much about busting your ass as just pointing it out for any "beginners" out there watching this. I've been there and done that myself! That aside... Big thumbs up 👍 for this very well thought out jig!! And for making the plans available. Another thing I really liked was your "trick" router guide! Seeing that was one of those "Why didn't I think of that!?" moments! I've been doing carpentry/woodworking for 40+ years and still there's always something new to learn! Subscribed....

A word for those who do not read instructions fully. First, thanks Tamar for all the great ideas!! I love all your tips-&-tricks and down-to-earth talk. FYI... I downloaded the plans for the 6-IN-1 TRIM Router Jig and would like to just point out (which you do in the printed instructions but I did not notice when I first read them. My bad...) Please make sure that before you print, be sure to set the print settings to 100% (Page Sizing & Handling) within Adobe or select (Actual Size) or your printout will not be the correct size. It will be too small. Wonderful Jig. Love it!!

This led me to revisit your video catalog and this video caught my attention. I am very impressed with your creativity and ability to execute what is in your head into the real world. Well done. Great little jig 👍 I’d just like to mention, if your routing Acrylic you need to run your router on a low speed 1 or 2 on the speed dial, if you have a trim router where you can’t lower the speed then do not try it, it will weld your cut. Just thought I’d mention it 😁

I purchased the plans and printed them out. For everyone out there,, they are excellent, and very detailed. Between them and the video, I'm sure my jig will come out right. I also bought a 24" piano hinge on Amazon for $8.99 to make the edge guide. Can't wait to make the jig and the edge guide and see what I can do with them. Tamar, I am now going to watch all your videos, except the guitar builds. I'm sure I am going to learn countless things that will help take my woodworking to the next level.

Just found an 8x4 piece of discarded acrylic sign tha is mostly clear and I’m in the process of makin sets of this jig for all of my fiscally challenged woodworking friends. Bough the plans and that jig set from Woodcaft. (They sure are proud of it but it IS convenient) and since I’ll be using it back and forth on several jigs it isn’t too painful. Helpful. Thanks for your posts, they are always both informative and helpful.
