I'm an 82 year old boat carpenter who spends more time enjoying videos like yours than I do in my shop thanks to sore joints etc. A lot of my body parts hurt these days and what doesn't hurt doesn't work but I still love spending time building nice projects. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to watch you build this nice bench. You have combined modern methods and machinery with a very high level of workmanship and you even pick up a plane or a chisel too. I have worked with some top-notch craftsmen and you can hold you own with any of them. By the way, they make mistakes too. I'm looking forward to watching you build some more interesting projects.

First off, this bench is absolutely amazing! Second, thank you so much for being willing to show us when things go wrong or when mistakes happen. For those of us still in the "make something garbage and learn from it" phase, seeing highly skilled woodworkers make the kind of mistakes that we would make and still turn out great work is super encouraging because it reinforces the idea that skill isn't about not making mistakes, but knowing how to fix them and not panic when they happen. I learn a lot from your videos!

What a gorgeous bench! I made a split-top Roubeaux 2 years ago with a Hovarter leg vise and could not be happier with it. Got a Benchcrafter end vise, and wish I'd gotten a Hovarter there too. Hovarter vises slide to close, partial turn to tighten--genius. What a joy to have a great bench. I laminated yellow pine from a 100+ yr old barn floor for the top, legs were red oak from an old horse wash stanchion, the rest from ash (dead of course) from our lot. One thing you may consider building in the future is a ceiling mounted boom under spring tension to support your camera. It frees up your floor space and is easily positioned for any angle to shoot from. A couple knobs for tightening and you are good to go. I'm working on my own and plan to make 2 with removable floorplates for quick changes. Cheers on the completion of this project, it is beautiful.

“We all make stupid mistakes, the only difference is mine was caught on camera.” True story. We ALL make mistakes in our projects. Woodworking KZbinrs who show their mistakes (and more importantly, how they fix them!!) are to my mind more honest and demonstrate a true instructor’s mindset than those who show perfect technique every time. Love your workbench, Tamara!

You are incredible, a true inspiration, and the down to earth human side is a real icing on the cake bit of who you are, showing mistakes and how to overcome them is something special many prefer to hide as if they were perfect, in all reality perfection is more how you roll because perfection is learning by mistakes and not hiding them. Doesn't mean you have to show them all but some are important. it makes you much more relatable to the real people who watch and learn from you. It shows mistakes are ok and normal.

This was an awesome build series. Glad U R doing better. I like how U R thinking about making things easier with the side and leg dog holes. U said small girl problems. I'm a former power lifter and bodybuilder. I have hurt my back, knees, shoulders, and elbows doing it. I have no desire to be lifting heavy slabs around anymore. I am all about finding better ways to do this now. There are dollies that are scissor lifts that can be used to lift the wood up to the workbench. Engine lifts are a good option and if U wanted to go big. A rail system with a chain fall can help to lift up heavy objects and move them around UR shop. Size and strength does not have to be a limiting factor. There are ways to do the projects we want to do and do them safely. I enjoy UR videos keep them coming. Be safe, keep making, and stay awesome.

The bench is impressive. Nice job!! I did something similar to my ankle. I was carrying a 4x4 pressure treated post down the steps of my basement and still had my sunglasses on. I misjudged the last step and rolled my ankle just like you did. It took a few months to heal. The post was no where near the weight of your bench top but was enough for me to not be able to recover from misjudging the last step. We try to be safe working in our shops but forget that moving materials can be almost as dangerous as our power tools.

Incredible design, beautifully executed! So many well-considered features, it’s clear you spent hours (months?!) thinking it through. The only thing I’d change if I were to build it is a tool well in place of the spacer, I’ve tried a spacer with tool slots but I’m way too messy and lazy to use them, a well catches everything for me. Loved the series, great to see you back, and commiserations on the ankle 😬, tha footage (ha 😂!) was tough to watch!

Your bench is beautiful! I really like the way you combined old and new styles. Plus your closing comments helped me a lot - I’m planning an assembly table/track saw cutting station and keep stopping, thinking I have to figure out every detail before I get started. Now I realize that as long as I figure out *how* drawers, etc will go in, I don’t have have to complete that right away. I can work with the table and get a better idea of what I will need and where to locate tools and rulers later.

Something to bere in mind lass, you DON'T want to counter sink unless you absolutely have to, it's much better to use a brass dome head screw in a counter bore as the sloped sides between the screw and wood create pressure points that will lead to splitting over time, but if you use a flat or dome headed screw set into a counter bore that issue is almost completely eliminated.

Regarding the ankle sprain injury; two tips I learnt many, MANY years ago - which stuck with me - is to think of the health and safety of the item you're carrying too - and clearing the path you're about to carry it via. If you don't want to drop or damage the thing you're carrying (OR injure yourself) then check the route is clear before you lift the thing. I always nowadays check my route for trip hazards, stuff I might have to contort to get around, etc. It takes a couple of mins for a long route - but my back needs me to be careful these days. It would've saved your workpiece from the drop, your camera from being in the way, and your ankle from the (freak/rare) injury. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 vision but it's a good data point to reaffirm the tips as valuable. Oh and by God that workbench is amazing - totally inspiring and super helpful for my upcoming workbench build. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to explain the features/benefits. Seeing your love for your designs and those pop-up dogs etc is so wholesome and energising to experience.

Hi Tamar, I am just beginning my woodworking journey and a lot of times I have a hard time holding things that are too heavy and awkward for my hands and strength. I loved the workbench series because I learned so much from from your adaptations in the video and then how you came up with lasting solutions in the final design. Truth be told; it was your intro to joinery video that got me interested in woodworking, and I love learning from your teachings as I limp along to catch up with all you do and know! That was a nasty spill! Keep up the ankle exercises. Sprains can take years to heal, but building strength around the joint (😂) will hold you together as strong as your bench! Thank you so much for your videos! Signed, a true fan!

I love this bench, and I might have to make one for myself. Quick hint when pulling the paper backing off of acrylic sheets (like your dog hole template): once you get the first inch or so off the acrylic, lay a 1" dia. piece of dowel, or a hunk of broom stick on the paper and roll the paper up on the dowel using your palms while holding the dowel against the acrylic. It zooms right off. Works great for larger pieces of acrylic.

Love the popup benchdogs, genius! Some tips from a long time pro: The laminate is very easily cut with the tracksaw into manageable pieces, you can even use a tracksaw to cut the laminate flush, just set the depth to one mm and cut backwards to prevent breakout. If you figure out while glueing you can cut the dowel, domino, cookies, etc. With clippers or a saw, just put a coffee filter or baking sheets to keep the sawdust from going into the glue and reapply if needed.

I already made a comment on how beautiful your new workbench is, it is also very well thought out.👍 I also want to mention that I totally agree with your notion n-hardware option. I have always added a square loop handle to avoid having a corner to catch my pants or my work apron. I’m glad you mentioned that because it’s obvious to me but apparently it to others.

What an awesome bench you designed and built. There are several features that you included that will go into mine, when I finally have the time to get out there. Life keeps getting in the way. As a suggestion, When you are in the shop, you might want to look into getting work boots. Having support on the ankle might have made it so your ankle was not hurt as bad. I know that being on your feet all day, you want a comfortable shoe. And there are some very comfortable boots out there. At over $200.00 a pair for Redwings may seem like a lot, but they last me for years. And I have to wear them at work so I need comfort.

At first: Glad to see, your foot is better and was healing well. And yes, nothing is more important than health. You can buy everything but not health, so for you and all professional and hobby woodworker: Please be careful, you are more important than any of your projects. Wow, I really enjoyed watching you by building this workbench. Truly I love wood projects with many different functions. I always try to build an "all in one wonder", if you know what I mean. If you have little space, you need good plans for many functions in just one project. Thank you, Tamar for sharing this with us. P.S. I love your own tools so much, they looks so useful (I already saw other YT woodworker with your tools), so wished I would live in US to buy them.

That is a well thought out bench. It's looks like every time you wished your bench had something, you added it to a list and then incorporated it into the design. Excellent Job.

You are such an amazing young woman and that bench is just to awesome. I was wincing here when watching you hurt your ankle, it looked really bad hopefully is wasn't as bad as it looked. I jumped out of the hay truck to get more bales and twisted my ankle in a wood chuck hole, first it hurt then it didn't but felt cold, then it changed to feeling hot and then back to hurting, for years after I did that I had to wear high ankle shoes or boots or I would twist it again really easily. Hope you were fine quickly.

The finished bench looks amazing and is very well made too. It’s clear that you put a lot of thought into it and that over time it will help make your wood working tasks that much smoother.

Love, love, love the workbench / assembly angle to this. Thank you again for your unique perspectives! 🤗🤗 Congratulations on the new bandsaw!😊 That roll on your ankle was cringeworthy! Glad you are getting better! Please be careful over the next few months though please. I am sure you already know re-spraining is so easy for months after. I did that waaaay long ago in high school (4 times in one school year). My final sprain was so severe they put me in a boot for 6 weeks, an air cast with athletic tape for another 4 weeks, and athletic wrapping for another 4 weeks. And still was told to be cautious for another 6 months.
