Really nice video. You took us through the process with explanations and footage. That's something you don't see often and a sign of a good teacher. Thanks for sharing.

You have one advantage. Most of the trains run on fuel so you don't need to built overhead electric power supplies. Most of the tracks in Europe are electrified so either you choose to built tracks of the past and operate with steam or diesel trains or you are obligated to built overhead power lines and that's not easy on the N-scale. Loved watching this video. Greetings from the Netherlands.

A short cut I was to weather/darken track is go to your local gun store and get some containers of "GUN BLUE" Put the snap track in the solutions and the job is done. I also polish the top of the rails but that's just me.
@StevesTrains2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of people doing that to darken the rail. I’ll try that sometime. I’ve polished rails in the past and agree that it does help performance overall.

I'm debating a portable layout to get ke started.... thanks for the inspiration here, this project looks to be awesome. I have an NCE Power Cab, a Cab 06, and a SB5 unit... debating the power cab for this portable setup, but possibly with a Wifitrax panel, or maybe even the Wifitrax 5A panel to make it entirely wireless.

Great job thus far. I agree with you about the WS Track pens, they get destroyed really quick but like you, I like those colors and drained the pens 😂 Pike kits are great, I really like them but wish they’d have a bigger selection. Loved your suggestion about stripping those tiny wires, I’ll try it even after I finally found a stripper that works on them. Thanks for sharing!
@StevesTrains3 жыл бұрын
Obviously burning the wire coating off isn't necessarily ideal to do inside the house, at least not if you are doing a bunch of them and don't have good ventilation. It isn't a big deal for me in the garage since I can just open the garage door.

Hi Steve, I just wanted to let you know that I have learned more tricks on building my railroad from you then anybody else. You go at the right pace and explain everything your doing clear and why your doing it. So keep up the good videos and why don’t you do a 4’X8’ N scale layout?

That wire burn off tip probably just saved me hours of headache.
@StevesTrains3 жыл бұрын
I just learned that this summer. I can’t tell you how much I hated working with that thin wire until I came across that idea in a forum somewhere. I was always breaking the wire trying to strip it. Now it is easy peasy. Some of that wire you can also just solder with the coating on it as the heat from the solder will burn off the coating but it depends on the wire type.

another great video as it all starts to come together for the final layout. those signals are very interesting and i'm actually looking at them to possibly add to my layout. still can't wait to see the final layout, any chance of possible camera car footage during it? just wondering, but it's completely up to you as it is your layout and channel.
@StevesTrains3 жыл бұрын
I would like to do a camera car view. That is something I need to get setup.
@Jigoku_Samurai3 жыл бұрын
@@StevesTrains the setup that I use a just a depressed flat car and one of those cheap cop cams. The camera is small enough to fit through the tunnels with little to no problems (except for the initial setup and eating process).

Hey Steve, I am about to start my first layout and have been learning a lot from watching your videos. I really enjoy them. I have a question, why are you spraying areas with alcohol? What does that do? And is matte medium like a glue?
@StevesTrains2 жыл бұрын
Matte medium works like regular white glue but it is more flexible and it doesn’t dry shiny like regular glue does. I spray things with alcohol to help the matte medium mix soak in easier without beading up on the surface. You can just add some dish soap to the mix and/or spray everything with a water/soap mix as well. I like using alcohol since I can spray a finer mist more readily which won’t disturb the scenery as much and also it helps everything to dry faster.

Do you make these for other people? If so, would love to buy one from you.
@StevesTrains2 жыл бұрын
I do, but have at least a five year wait list at this point if not more. But sometimes I just sell layouts I build that aren’t built for someone else. You can drop me a message from the website at steves-trains.com and I can add you to the list, even if just to email you when a project is available for purchase.

you would have to be an engineer to wire that lot up for such a tiny railroad layout

@StevesTrains3 жыл бұрын
People ask me to build them a layout, and then if they pay, I build it basically. You can contact me using the form on the website steves-trains.com. I probably have a 2-3 year wait list right now, and maybe even longer. I might only get 1-3 layouts built per year since I only have maybe a few hours per week to work on them and I think I have like a dozen people on the wait list now. Of course some will probably drop off.
