Haha, this is great! I had an old 3x7 that I wanted to upgrade but didn't want to spend any money on, then I saw this and....now I have a 1x7! Who knew? Best thing is it didn't cost me anything, because I used parts taken off another MTB I upgraded. I didn't have a spare brake lever, but they're pretty cheap, so I guess I'll get one some day. In the meantime I just took the cable out and I'm using it with the dead shifter on the left. Anyway, thanks for this, keep up the great work!

This is what I do. Since I use my mountain bike as a fitness tool I select before I go out on my 3x which drivetrain I will use for that ride. I keep the chain on that front one for the entire ride and use all of the rear cassette. Less thinking about going thru all the gears. More time enjoying the ride and grinding away. To each their own and this video was good getting right to the conversion and not messing around. Thanks!

In February of 2020, Box Components is shipping out the Box Four 8 speed drivetrain. It is available for preorder now for less that $200. The drivetrain will feature an 8 speed 11-42 Cassette (likely not designed by Box as other drivetrains suggest), a very high-quality, 8 speed clutch derraileur specifically designed to work with an 11-42 cassette, and a special Box chain that will accommodate 10-12 speed narrow-wide chainrings that are on most bikes today.

Interesting job, but why? You’re not gaining anything and losing two full ranges of gearing. I know the 1x is all the rage now, but those are usually 3x8 to 1x10 or 11 conversions to simplify and still keep a range of gears. Staying as a x8 you’re not getting anything out of it.
@MCMTB5 жыл бұрын
You're not riding hard enough if you're still using a 3x8 set up, One of the reason I upgraded to this set up is to prevent my chainring hitting rocks and logs. Yeah you're not gaining speed at all but you really don't need a 52chainring and a 11 cog in the trail. Think about it,
@clrlmiller5 жыл бұрын
Okay I could see extra clearance, but why keep the same x8 cassette? You did the change out from a square taper to an external bearing bracket, so why not move onto an x9, x10 or even x11 rear? If that’s for a later project and vid, I completely understand. It’s nice work and editing and I’m not an MTB guy. Just touring and road, and trying to understand the new gotta have it thing.
