@@3for4PA SOP says you open a corridor (typically stealth) this allows other aircraft, hellos, cruise missiles to enter that corridor and take out command and control, flank other units, etc, etc…. A-10s are ground support A/C not the lead elements of an Alpha strike

A-10s would never engage with their 30mm cannon at all. Despite the fact that the plane was designed around the gun, the gun's short range leaves it incredibly vulnerable. The vast, vast majority of kills the A-10 has made throughout its service history have been made with missiles, not the gun. The AA sites also wouldn't engage a jet with guns either except as a last resort, especially if the plane is kiting at a safe distance, the A-10's guns will outrange the AAA. AA would engage with SAMs. The guns are primarily for shooting down missiles when SAMs fail to destroy any incoming missiles fired from the plane.

The Hog is only doing 250 Knots. Should be easy meat for any radar guided weapon! It's a huge brick in the radar scope, low and slow!

range of just about all known ground based AA systems is roughly 3000 meters. range of the A10 canon is over 6500 meters. these vids of ridiculous.

Service ceiling is angels 45 though. In real sortie this would likely never happen even though it’s a cool scenario with DCS.

I was in the Army and stationed in Germany during the cold war and spent many days preparing for the conflict at Fulda Gap. We would have been nothing short of a speed bump for the Russians in that scenario - I was an 11B (Infantryman) when I first arrived and was stationed at Kirch Goens - The Rock. I returned to Germany some years later and was stationed at Bad Tolz with the 1BN 10th SFG. Fun times for sure.

@@morecowbell69 Yeah, the expected life of a tank and its crew in the European theatre after a declaration of war is closer to 20 minutes - they're slow, obvious, vulnerable. Fighter pilots typically get another 5 minutes or so in industrialised warfare.

So... what exactly is this A-10 pilot trying tro accomplish here? He's flying and weaving through AA fire, but he isn't even trying to engage the AA units with either guns or missiles. Hell, he isn't even disengaging so that other, higher-altitude aircraft can shoot them from outside their guns' range. It's as if he's thinks he's in a computer simulation, trying to show off how awesome Russian anti-aircraft weaponry is.

If they weren't firing tracers it would be much harder to avoid the AA fire. All you need is 1 or 2 aircraft to distract the AA fire then a 2nd or 3rd plane to fire a HARM. It's that easy. An active radar is a disadvantage. End of story..........

Assuming the Shilka is part of a Russian Battalion, the A-10 would not be able to fly high enough to use its longer range. The A-10 would be easily taken out by powerful long range SAMs if it flew high. Now it would have to fly low under the SAMs radar and that is where the Shilka would most likely take them out. The Shilka took out 30% of the Israeli Fantom jets in their war with Egypt. An a-10 can not out maneuver or outrun a Shika’s guns, it can take a few hits however. Not too many. The Russian AA umbrella is superb and now days the Shilka has been replaced with more effective AA in its role. Shilka vs A-10 one on one, who sees who first, because the Shilka also has missiles fitted. These type scenarios are pretty pointless anyway. Let’s say a guy with an RPG-7 vs a full manned T-55 who would win? Answer: Who sees who first. No, I am not Russian, I am from USA. Whew, that was a lot, haha!

If it an AA round it usually explode mid air "Usually" And if it regular round it will come back down, either A. The bullet land safely or B. It hit someone kid 5km away

LMAO! um... no they don't, lol... and this vid is a damn joke. max range of the AA systems is just a few thousand meters. the A10's canon's range is about 6500 meters, lol... not to mention the use of missiles from much further away. i'll put it this way... if you were operating this system in a fight against the US. and you detected an A10 coming at you... you're dead, period. if you're lucky, you might have enough time to run your ass off to safety.

@@JP-cb8bz because it shoots, doesn't mean it works very well. did you even read my comment? your AA has about half the range of an A-10. meaning the A-10 can fire on your AA while still out of range for your AA bullets. how is that a good thing?

@@governmentcheese7726 except that isnt the only AA system to be operating in the field. Its radar will detect the A-10 long before the A-10 finds it and provides information to the other AA units to deal with the plane

@@fulcrum2951 and clearly you know nothing about US systems. that A-10 is far from the only system spotting those AA units as well. and the A-10 will be more than aware of the other units in the field and will very readily avoid them as needed. not that it matters... even the simplest of US radar detection currently in use will know they're being tracked from miles away. thus, L O N G before the A-10 comes within the feeble weapons range of any AA units. the A-10 will know who they are and where they are, period. and when you compare the 6,ooo+ meter range to your feeble 3,000+ meter range of your AA. there is no concern for the A-10. i mean seriously man, do you really think we'd send in air units without support? what the fuck do you think we spend so much on sats and AWACS and etc for. we have sats that can literally read a license plate on a car. do you seriously think we just fly aircraft into battle blind. all the A-10 has to do is a fly over at 10,000 feet to scan the area. then start picking it's prey off one by one, period. and of course i'd expect you to bring up missiles with better range, lol... but unfortunately for you. the very short ranged missiles your armor is equipped with can be readily countered by any one of several anti missile missiles use on various US fighters to date. sorry, but either way you try to argue this. the A-10 rips your AA ass wide open, lol...
