Hello, I have a question here. How do we deal with a case where there is a circular dependency that means in R(ABCD) we have given that A->B, B->C, C->D, D->A....how do we find the candidate key in that relation and then convert it further into normal forms?

sir in example no 4, we found that AB ->C proves that R is not in 3NF, so we decomposed AB ->C i.e. R1(ABCI) but sir here A is a prime attribute and it finds I which is a non prime attribute so there should be no problem but sir you have again decomposed R1 to R11 and R12. Why so sir?

Sir, Can you solve the following question to decompose the table into first 2NF and then 3NF? Given, the relation: R (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, f) and the FDs: a -> c, d, e; a, b, g, h -> i, j, k, f; j, i, g, h -> f, a, b. Decompose the given relation first into 2NF and then 3NF. It will be of great help if you help me in this sir.

Can't resist giving feedback after watching his videos on FD(Part 3.1) till 3NF(Part 4.8). - His videos are okay to understand the concepts intuitively but will be of little help if you solely rely on it for GATE. Reading a standard book or watching lectures of some reputed colleges (as available on NPTEL/Stanford/MIT) is a must to get the technical jargon and to get the concepts right. - Mr. Sanchit Jain deliberately took examples involving a single candidate key, while solving problems on 3NF, and pretended that this is all that will be asked in GATE/NET. This will give the candidates a sense of "complete" understanding when, in fact, they just learned and practiced the skills to solve a subset of the possible questions. This series was recommended to me by an accomplice, but I won't recommend it if you want to appear for GATE. Supplementing these videos with a reference text might prove helpful. **Views are personal**
