Good morning Tex.👋I may try using more of the plastic frames I can only get 8 wooden frames in my brood chamber when I have my frame feeder down there. I built my boxes a little tight unintentionally, makes ya learn frame spacing. Tex is going to end up with a 100 hives if he isn't careful.😁Watch out Tex you might end up overly Blessed in the near future.

Yeah that extra frame is nice to be able to squeeze in there. With 8 it's just too much space. Lol DC. I am forcing myself to build more equipment over the next few days I went to an outyard yesterday that I swore I put supers on already. NOPE. Not a single super on and they all needed it. I gotta get some boxes out there fast. Hope you're enjoying your Bees DC. I'm going to have to watch your install video as soon as I get off work.

I have some plastic frames but I am switching to wood frames with foundation because the shb hide in the plastic. I do heavily wax the foundation and the bees take right to it...Deb
@TexasBeekeeper Жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. Those openings in the plastic frames are good hiding places for SHB, etc. Thankfully I haven't had a problem with SHB but I could see that being a concern. I wonder if there's a safe product that could be injected in those crevices? Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@TexasBeekeeper I have been wondering the same, glues and chalk will be eaten by the bees
@TexasBeekeeper Жыл бұрын
@@thesunbuney5048 hmmmm. Maybe I need to look into 3d printing some plastic plugs to fill those gaps.... Definitely want it to be something safe for the bees

I find sometimes I get a spotty pattern when there is lack of pollen or nectar, I think it could be the bees removing the eggs, what you think.
@TexasBeekeeper Жыл бұрын
Could be Brad. They might be having eggs for breakfast 🤔

Your hives look good. With all the rain you've gotten you should have a good honey flow. With 75 hives you do have to prioritize your workload. I'm busy with a dozen or so. LOL I don't like all plastic foundations as well as wood frames but it isn't a big deal. I do have some intermixed. I have heard people say that you get more burr comb with plastic. Do you find that also? I noticed you had a big ball of wax on just two hives and I rarely see much unless they get to crowded.

Hey Russell, Yes sir. To each his own. I like wood and I like plastic. I'm just cheap and lazy, so I lean more towards the plastic for those reasons. 😀 The bees do tend to draw some comb on top of the plastic frames more so probably than they do the wood. However they do draw it out on the wood too.... I also get a decent amount of comb on the underside of the lid probably because of the space up there. I have a .50 or so shim on my lids. As far as the burr comb. I think it just depends on how well the foundation is waxed. If I don't wax the foundation, they'll draw some burr comb. However if I do wax them, they'll draw them out great. That goes for both solid plastic frames and wood frames with plastic foundation . Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hay Tex do you have any idea what would make old frames small tabaco-ish? A bunch of old plastic frames I got with the used gear that came with my extractor and a strong smell to them. I scraped the wax and melted it down, it doesn't seem to smell but the remnant wax left on the frames does.
@TexasBeekeeper Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm. Hard to say. Something in the wax must be giving it that smell. Tobacco though........can't say I'd mind that 😀
