I started watching anime in japanese when I was 12 because I decided to watch everything in O.V no matter the language. Never regretted the decision, it makes such a big difference. Now when I see people watching anime in other languages it feels fake. I even use Japanese voices and stuff in videogames if given the choice. It just sounds right, also you eventually start learning some words or expressions.

I really love Gintama that anime is such a comedic genius. The jokes and puns are simple and dumb most of the time but it's just funny everytime they bring it up...

my go to anime to learn japanese a bit is Shirokuma cafe. There is some Daijare(word puns) in allmost every episode, and it actually enhances your vocabulary! There is also a lot of phares used on daily life in café, so you should give it a try

Are there any anime that you think are better in English? b/c I feel like for the most part Japanese voice acting is better, but there are some that I think actually sound better in the English dub like Cowboy Bebop. But then there are some like Death Note where, the English VA isn't bad, it's just definitely not as good as the Japanese VA.

The Japanese cast for Cowboy Bebop is far from bad of course. But the English dub for it is phenomenal. I feel the same about Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Again, the Japanese cast of seiyuu are amazing, but the English one is better imo.

For anyone who actually wants to learn Japanese and is at an intermediate level 四畳半神話大系 may indeed be challenging but the story is very repetitive. It is the Japanese equivalent of A Christmas Carol, with the main character re-living his regret filled college years. Many lines are repeated with only tiny variations in nuance, and on the whole it was one of the best shows for learning Japanese. Listening to this show's audio several times was a huge part of how I got really comfortable comprehending Japanese. One thing though, I think Japanese subtitles are better, I don't think learners can read English and truly listen to the audio at the same time. Maybe if you're fluent in both its fine, but for learners it is just a distraction. You can do it, 好機はいつでもあなたの目の前にぶら下がってございます

I'm by no means capable of catching all of the nuance while following English subtitles, but I've learned enough over the years to understand some moments. For example, the "私? 僕? 俺?" Scene in 君の名は. I don't even remember what the subs translated that as. I'm sure I still miss a lot, but over time I am learning more and more vocabulary almost exclusively from English subtitled Japanese content. Another thing to consider is reading speed. I know many people who struggle to read subtitles fast enough to follow anything else, but I have no issue keeping up. I freely admit I don't understand much, but the years of exposure have finally got me to a level where I get value from paying attention to the Japanese. Even if I miss 90%, I still appreciate the 10% I do get.

I have a personal rule with most interactive and visual media, I'll play/watch it in the language of it's setting, if an anime is set in America I'll watch the dub, if it's set in Japan i'll watch it subbed, Fantasy media is all just what I start watching first. My personal favorite subbed anime currently are Dororo (2019) and Heike Monogatari since I love anime set in pre-Meiji Japan and say we need more grounded ones like Heike Monogatari but about the Sengoku Jedai

I watch Jojo in sub first then english later because i love the English cast (and i get to laugh at how they dodge copyright with the stand names in english). Are there any animes you know where the dub is actually really good, if you've seen any? I just finished watching Baccano and i think that one has the best English dub of all time. I think it's just as good as the original. Because of this i don't think dubs for cartoons/anime/video games/etc should always be written off automatically. (unless it's a live action show, where any dub is already inferior)

Originally sub, now more dub guy. I do however watch the Japanese version when the english dub is just too godawful: my guilty pleasure, GATE, is one example. Guilty because as someone on the far left I should fucking hate it, yet it is enough of an entertaining "what if" that I endure the patriotic garbage. Doesn't change the fact that I'd probably bust the jaw of the author of the original light novel if we ever met on the street. Then promptly get deported from Japan and barred from the country forever. I also watch the Japanese versions of stuff like chaos;head. for whatever reason I think it's best to watch in original Japanese. For live action stuff, of course I never watch the English dub.

I would argue Crayon Shin-Chan should be on the list too. Way back in the 90's, it was sort of the big test to see how good your Japanese was in the States. If you could understand every joke in Crayon Shin-Chan, back then? Your Japanese was advanced.

Its because the nuance is different due to the meaning or the way you say it (which I'm sure you already know cause you're a cool kid like me ;-D ) . I speak a Sicilian dialect, and there are sayings we have in Sicilian that we wouldn't have in English, and vice versa. There are anime I watch where I can appreciate the nuances of how characters speak and so forth. So I can definitely relate to what you're saying. I would sit at the dinner table and listen to my grandfather speak in my family's dialect and It makes me think how cool it is to understand his nuances. I appreciate the same with Japanese.

I grew up watching Spanish and some Portuegese anime dubs I'd say therey're pretty good overall, but you do see a lot of name changes in Spanish dubs. Most don't often make sense (like Yahiko changed to Yoshi) but some do, like in the spanish dub of Inuyasha they changed the name of Kagome to something like "Aome" because "Kagome" in spanish sounds dangerously close to a slang term for crapping oneself.

I watch anime with russian dub... and for that reason I tend to avoid anime that are more concentrated on "talking comedy" because even if I realise that the translators do a great job at adaptating them so they make sense to russian speakers and even if I end up laughting my ass up I do realise that in some cases the original had defferent meanings or references, for example: there was one time when and anime quoted a celebrity and the dub had to change it to another so that the joke would make sense, so it throws me off a little. On the other hand I really enjoy the other tipe of series where the comedy is more situational... if that makes sense, or where there is no comedy at all. There are shows out there that hit you hard and watching them while trying to make sense out of the subtitles makes it hard for me too fully immerse, I stop hearing the music or I don't observe the facial expressions as I should, for that reason I preffer to go for the original or the dub and avoid subtitles. I personally would never be able to learn japanese it's simply too hard for my chicken brain, for that reason I'm glad that russian dubs exit they allow me to enjoy an anime after a long tidius day without having to struggle to read subtile and make sense out of them. I may not be able to have a full taste of the japanese VA's performance but I can feel the love the russian one's are putting in theirs trying to give the russian community a place where they can enjoy what they love in peace. This is not a rant of any sort to justify watching dubs over subs, this is my love letter to the teams at Animevost. P.S. I still watch hentai with subs because unfortunately there is no russian dub team ready to work on them. (they did dub Interspecies Reviewers tho, so maybe there is some hope in the future) P.P.S. great video as always, keep it going.

I can only really watch anime in sub because even If I don't understand everything, I can literally feel the loss of meaning It would have had if it was in dub. Also because of the amazing voice actors like Tomokazu Sugita and Matsuoka Yoshitsugu who have no equal when it comes to English voice actors... Well except for Gianni Matragrano
