Monty was one of the most refreshingly unobtrusive hosts I seen in these types of documentaries.

He gives really good advice too, always seems to know the right thing to help people focus in on the craft.

I agree. He allows the documentary to be about the subject and not about him. In my opinion he comes out all the more likable and memorable as a result.

I'm glad Susan won, her design was really graceful and beautiful.

+crystalheart9 she really surprised me based on the previous episodes of this. But I guess she just needed to do her own thing after all. I wonder though if the initial pressing on the fundamentals that the instructor had to force on her enabled her expression or if it was hindering it. It is weird that the final challenge was more filigree and design than stone masonry though.

This show is an excellent production. There's so many shows about cathedrals and their arches and all but here we see a hammer strike a chisel and hear a discussion on the craft skills required to form each individual stone in those arches. Very nice.

I'm proud of Susan, usually the women fall well behind the men in this series. She did a great job.

Also...wasn't Nigel's obelisk cut by a machine, and not one even operated by him?! He basically just did the spiral.

A very self-absorbed bloke, but that desire for praise and acknowledgement from others shows a psychological feeling of inferiority. On the other hand Simon is a modest and humble bloke who will probably be very successful in his craft and more importantly at the end of the day, he will be liked! It's PEOPLE who give stonemasons their contracts, and the popular guy does get the jobs when everything else is equal. Susan's piece was beautiful and I liked the part where she said "The birds can drink too". Nice!

Blade56762 I liked it as well that the birds can drink too. That was sweet and very creative.
