**NOTES & CORRECTIONS** It's been brought to my intention that I phrased a few things in ways that could easily be misconstrued or misunderstood, so let me take this opportunity to clarify what I meant Re: Gaming & others meddling in his family affairs - When I was talking about people interfering in the affairs of other people's families, I wasn't saying we should never interfere, but that we should be careful about HOW we interfere. In my (very vanilla American) opinion, Zhongli's approach was more *effective* than Xianyun's approach, but that doesn't mean Xianyun shouldn't have meddled at all. She was well-intended and her actions meant a lot to Gaming. I do think I failed to account for the cultural context of Gaming and his father's parent-child dynamics, but I also think I'm not the best person to comment on it for reasons I don't want to elaborate on. Re: Xianyun getting "scammed" into buying more tea - It was brought to my attention that my comment here could be misconstrued as a slight against Xianyun and the culture of buying gifts. That was not my intent. I think I should have chosen a better word than "scammed" here because technically Xianyun and Neuvillette got a good deal even though they spent more than they intended and got more than they wanted. My comment was more about Xianyun's lack of familiarity with the nuances of Human customs (in this case, bargaining), something we saw mirrored with Neuvillette who did the same thing. This was something that the Traveler, Paimon and even Clorinde agree is due to inexperience.

I guess that explained the giant cryo whopperflower that mimic albedo back in 2.3. the difference is that it absorbed the "dragon's" blood. I assume that the nectar and the "dragon's" blood have some same similarities or the dragon's blood just greatly enhanced the said growing ability.

You must remember in asian cultures parents still want to have tight reign over their children's futures. Going against their wishes is strongly held is negative regard, perceived as rebellious and disrespectful, unbecoming of what good filial children ought to be. Gaming's story is a reflection of what real people feel and desperately wish for some "higher authority" to intervene and talk sense into their parents. Xianyun/Cloud Retainer being an adeptus is that higher authority and not some mere meddlesome aunt or neighbour, who then ropes in Zhongli to carry out the persuasion job.

I know people like to mock him & his grandpa-ness, but Zhongli is a true Chad. Pinnacle of healthy masculine self-assurance and calm contentment. Edit: also I disagree Xianyun was scammed. She got exactly what she paid for. She's just marketers' favourite since she has impulse buy tenancies. If she was told she's getting high grade tea that's good enough for gifting but got shit tea instead, THATS a scam. But since her discerning ass deemed the tea fit to gift Zhongli and Keqing, I think the tea' s good, the merchant can feed his family well for new years, and Xianyun got her moneys worth.

Of the recap, the things I've missed was: The Guhua ascension, I took it at face value, the possible Abyss powers mentioned is interesting. I heard someone (sorry I can't remember who) posit that Guizhong might have become corrupted by forbidden knowledge, and that it fell to Morax himself to put her down. I think back to "Memories of Dust", a catalyst weapon that was a gift to Morax during their Guili years: "This is the mark of our pledge, and it is also my challenge to you." "All my wisdom is hidden within this stone dumbbell." "If you can unlock it-" This sounds like a Chinese puzzle box: "One of the earliest known examples of puzzle boxes comes from ancient China, where wooden boxes were made with secret compartments to store valuable items such as jewelry and money. These Antique Chinese Puzzle Boxes were often used as a way of safeguarding assets, as the complexity of the puzzle made it difficult for anyone to open the box without the correct solution." The weapon recounts Guizhong's parting words to Zhongli: "It seems that our journey together has come to an end. As for that stone dumbbell, forget about it, would you?" Which sounds an awful lot like: Paimon: At the Avidya Forest, there was this incense that made the Traveler fall unconscious and dream of a huge tree and a red sky... Nahida: You also heard someone's voice, right? It said "world" and "forget me"? Paimon: Yeah! So you DO know! We've been wanting to ask you what that was about, and if the red sky was related to Khaenri'ah... Nahida: Hmm, it seems like the Traveler established a connection to Irminsul. What really got my archeological heart up and running during the events in the patches was the name "Upano" used for the Hilichurl event. More for the fact that the Upano River Valley is a famous site with the oldest Amazonian cities/building sites ever found in the region, fed on the rich soil of a nearby volcano (eeeee!), that may have also been the reason that the cities were abandoned (more eeeeee!), and with the hints that Natlan has Aztec/Mayan aspects given by the Talking Stick and such, makes me wonder if it's meant to hint at a link to the eventual Natlan quests, since a lot of events foreshadow future Archon Quests. With the Chenyu Vale lore already popping up giving us more hints on the older civilizations of Teyvat, I'm hoping Natlan will do the same. Also the fact that the Upano event felt oddly like the Traveler was outright being told to stop the big samachurl thing from essentially "cultivating" itself in the wish-granting domain felt like it should be important, though I'm not sure what it'd mean fully yet.

a weird thing I noticed during the hillichurl event was that when you play as the floating eye, dragonspine in the background did not have the floating, reassembled nail that appears when you complete the world quest there. it made me wonder if we were interacting/observing the past for whatever reason. or it could have been just an oversight for the event play area, who knows! genshin has really trained us to not overlook the tiniest details (that dang red teapot for example) so I just never know anymore, man

I had never thought of Guizhong being the god in Chenyu Vale, I actually had a theory that It was the god who was Xiao's old master (although this is slightly based on leaked lore I saw from an unreleased bow a LONG while ago now that very well could have changed)

That is my belief as well, given that I'm pretty sure Fujin mentioned the god having dominion over dreams and being evil. The Guizhong theory seems farfetched and out of character from what little we know of her.

I don't believe Guizhong was the god that Fujin and others followed, I mean I remember the 3.4 Lantern Rite cutsecens, she, Zhongli, Cloud Retainer and others were there together, like how would she be a god of Chenyu? All just doesn't add up. I also thought that this god that controlled dreams was former Xiao's master, and maybe after fight that Fujin was talking about Xiao was actually saved by Morax? I don't know, just my thoughts, but I really would like to know much more about whole Liyue lore.

I enjoy your videos a lot! I have learned so much about real world mythology and whatnot from your videos! But the theory about Guizhong feels off to me. As far as I remember, Cloud Retainer was unaware how Guizhong died, that she died due to some enemy attack and she arrived too late. Chenyu vale god was at war with Morax for some time, she tried to flood the vale to wash away Morax's Millelith stationed down the river. CR would have had to hide the fact Guizhong and Morax went to war, at the very least. Also, if your theory is true, if would mean that Guizhong decided to sacrifice not only herself, but also her people, as Morax would be unable to stop the flood in the vale.

4:20- It could also be theorized that if Guizhong is the god of Chenyu Vale, maybe she suffered from erosion, like Azdaha, and her actions were a result of "damentia" which forced Zhongli's hand to keep her chaos in check. This could be another factor as why Zhongli is so concerned with erosion and fostering independence in his peoples.

Btw after 4.6 goes live, theyv compressed a lot for assets. (It will only apply after the 4.6 update cuz for me usual updates range from 2 to 3 gb but this one was 9 gb becuz they are relocating assets and the old assets will be deleted after 4.6 goes live) So I urge u to try 4.6 when it goes live to see whether the storage problem has been solved.

Guizhong can’t be the lord of Chenyu Vale, unless you are suggesting that she had plans to flood the Guili Assembly, the civilization she built with Morax, in order to defend against the attacking Morax. Great recap as always, love these and have been waiting for it! Also, an added note about the staff given from the Alchemy Event - it was something that was actually mentioned in Judaism as well! When Moses was traveling the desert with the Israelites, many of them got ill, so he erected a staff with two serpents and whoever looked upwards towards the staff's tip was reminded of god and thus healed. Not exactly lore, but something that I noticed. Sir Pounce-A-Lot in the cat event came across WHOOPER FLOWER nectar that made him GIANT and then ran specifically into Albedo's investigation team. The miasma zones being so similar to the withering zones in sumeru cant be a coincidence. Sumeru explains to us that memories are = elemental energy, and we see that the suanni returning the land back to their memory or how chenyu vale used to be cause the miasma. Also in xianyun story quest once the memories return to that one lady she returns back go a bird. Memories are powerful in the world of teyvat. And now in the newest quest in 4.6 (spoilers) arlecchino is able to burn the memories out of people with her flames.

Wait, isn't Neuv, like, the second hydro sovereign? My understanding was that Apep was the only surviving one of the original dragon sovereigns, and that after the death of a given sovereign, a new one would eventually appear / develop. So like, out of the two dragon sovereigns that we currently know about (Apep and Neuv), only Apep should be as old as Teyvat itself.

Perhaps his current physical form and memories are recent, but his soul/essence should be the same, as in from before the Hydro Sovereign was initially defeated by the Primordial one or his shadows.

Neuvillette is the 2nd for the purposes of this though it doesn't matter, Neuvillette is just a new incarnation of the same being. We don't know the previous hydro dragons name, so they're using Neuvillette. Apep was not the only surviving elemental dragon of that time at least, that was never stated. Other dragons may also have survived, such as Azhdaha but their status is unknown. And no, Apep and even Azhdaha, should be older than Teyvat. Teyvat in its current guise was created by the Primordial One. The elemental dragons have been around longer than Teyvat has been a thing.

About Fishl words - I thought about future spoilers for Natlan and cats in other regions we've been. We have cats in Mond (not talkative), Inadzuma (Neko definitely did some cultivation to use speech and manage the shrine) and will have in Fontaine (that Remuria underwater diving kitty). So it seems cats could be a potential lore keepers all around Teyvat (and maybe this is why Venti has an allergy for them or pretend to have it). This catcafe event has another phrases about fire cats, don't remember from who (Ember or Razor?), so it really suits for half-dragon cats from Natlan maybe? :3

it's a shame we don't have cat lore in Liyue and Sumeru, but maybe will be? hope so T_T in Sumeru we have cramps - 2 cats with Nabiya we interact with in Setaria quest (the girl who do divination) & maybe some Scara methaphors for real? in Liyue - 1 cat in Wangshu inn who described as a Sheriff Cat + some stray cats near destroyed houses (Tianqui valley) + some groups in harbor

That's not quite how it works, Fairy Tales that allude to stuff changed in Irminsule are immune because they don't explicitly talk about what has changed, if Traveller had never brought Scara up to Nahida after the change, the Fairy Tale she wrote about him would always just be that. Fischl's recollection of Scara would be altered in the same way as anything else changed in Irminsule, fantasy world or no.

To the interpretations for the hilichurl poem i'd say, it's not to be seen as either about happiness or about disappearing. Since they're cursed with immortality, ultimate happiness to them means (or at least appears) to escape the curse and claim their final rest. So both interpretations are correct, given that 'vanishing' and happiness are synonymous to eachother in hilichurlian. Which is bittersweet and now i'm crying.😢

Hey ashikai Uhh I know you as a lore person since I watched some of your videos but I saw something The statue of Barbatos in mondstadt has a star pattern surrounded on it. It looks common in genshin. But I was just randomly messing with my screen and noticed the sky has the star pattern on it too. Is Barbatos's statue the gateway to celestia? Idk if you already made a video about this tho but if the star pattern in the sky is line, on top of The Big Barbatos statue.. Maybe it is??

You and Minslief are my two favorite genshin content creators and she is very very thorough with her research and she's pretty accurate in her theories as well. Hey ashikai, do you think man chai was always a pyro suanni or it was a typical hydro/anemo suanni before it met ga ming Also i want to point out that ga ming is like a liyue eremite: -He's a mercenary for hire -He has a familiar (man chai) just like how the eremites have their familiars (crocodile, bird, snake and scorpion) And ga ming covers his eyes with his wushou head just like how the eremites wear blindfolds and cyno covers his eyes with his hat Ga ming's abilities even hurt him similar to how being possesed has a negative effect on eremites Im really curious about using familiars/ being possesed in order to do magic. The eremites do it, cyno is possesed AND yelan's ancestor was a VISIONLESS THAUMATERGE and shenhe fought a seelie her dad summoned and uses a cryo avatar who's eyes are covered (the could just be made by her vision and just based on the techniques she was taught) So summoning seems to be practiced atleast in both sumeru and liyue

Cracked idea. I noticed if we ever get something like an Endgame here (absolute copium but bear with me), each nation seems to bring something to the table. Liyue has mechanized magic, Inazuma lost a detachment of Soldiers in the labyrinth in Labyrinth Warriors event of which they might return as a hardened and experienced fighting force, Sumeru has the freaking god puppet and if they use the Khaenri'an power blocks to power it up Nahida will have her own personal Mecha or maybe Wanderer will use it once again. Fontaine has the Gardemek (and their own version of an Ark) which if they can't solve the power issue of Fontaine, it will be hella crazy to see Neauvilette lead an army of Gardemek. And there's Mondstat. . . I get a feeling with the Alchemy event, Klee will conscript every single man, woman and child and jumpty dumpty the shit out of who ever they will fight. . . . okay that's all Copium over.
