Remuria was the civilization in Fontaine which directly preceded the previous Hydro Archon Egeria's rule. It was created by the God Remus, who was known by his people as the God King, and its capital city was Capitolium.[1] Remuria's downfall occurred as a result of Remus' attempt to avert its predicted destruction, and in particular, by his act of sharing his power and authority - reserved only for gods - with the four human Harmosts he appointed to govern his cities.[1] Records of the "Golden Troupe," which existed during this era, were largely lost during Remuria's sudden destruction; based on Rene's research, however, Jakob's unique physical constitution appears to relate to the Golden Troupe in some way.[2] Remuria would eventually be sunken into the Abyss, devouring everything including the people and Remus himself. History Remuria's creation, golden age, and downfall are recorded in The History of the Decline and Fall of Remuria, which was written 100 years after its destruction. After the "first era" - likely the Primordial One's era - humanity began to covet things that belonged to Celestia and attempted to break away from their fates, and so they were punished by having their cities destroyed by tsunamis and then buried underwater after 100 days of rainfall, which "drowned all sin and arrogation" and forced humanity to rebuild civilization all over again. In Fontaine, no true civilization was built for a long time - long enough that Gurabad in Sumeru rose and fell - until Remus arrived on Meropis and taught the people there how to build houses, farm, and appreciate the arts, especially music. He conquered the other islands in the region and the "great dragon beneath the abyssal depths" yielded to him.[1] He believed that so long as the "harmonious symphony of prosperity" continued to play, Remuria would prosper forever. He set about perfecting his civilization, paying particular attention to his capital city, Capitolium.[1] However, Remuria was prophesied to face "the most utter destruction" and its peoples to return to the primordial sea. To escape the prophecy, Remus aimed to eliminate all which might bring about such destruction or who did not accept his rules: Lochfolks, Vishaps, Barbarians. Hoping to make Remuria's peoples escape the flood, he mixed the primordial water with an immortal stone to create a Golden Ichor who would contain the souls and minds of his peoples and placed this Ichor full of souls into Golems, and tried to replace the entire Primordial Water with his golden Ichor. Barbarians and Vishaps eventually started a rebellion under the leadership of the Dragon Scylla against Remus and his golem army and golden troupe. Remus eventually realized his wrongs while Remuria was being destroyed and gave out his final orders, attempting to restore peace back to Remuria. But it was already too late, the Harmost Boethius saw his retreat as a betrayal, stole the golden Ichor and sealed the Dragon Scylla with it. Remuria and its peoples were swept away by the Abyss at the same time the Dragon was sealed. The golden Ichor is eventually corroded by the Primordial Sea and the survivors turned back into "Barbarism and Annihilation" until the Hydro Archon Egeria appeared and settled the conflicts between tribes, taking over as Fontaine's God. Culture Arts and Music Music, whether literal or symbolic, played a particularly significant role in Remuria.[3] Remus introduced the beauty of music to his people because he believed that it "differentiated humans from other living things". Capitolium, the capital of Remuria, is described to be overflowing with beautiful melodies and also a paradise for artists and musicians where only the most outstanding intellectuals and musicians were allowed.[1] Politics Remus elevated four humans of particular ability to become Harmosts, rulers over Remuria's cities. Two Harmosts are currently known: Boethius[4] and Cassiodor.[5] It is also implied that only the most outstanding intellectuals and musicians are allowed to serve Remus. Architectures Due to Remus' love for the arts, architectures also played a significant role in Remuria. The capital of Remuria, Capitolium, is a home to many theatres and palaces "adorned with the most sumptuous and intricate carvings".[1] The grand temples and arenas were built with giant carved rocks to commemorate the city's glory and victory. The solid and towering walls are decorated with glaze and gold, bronze and marble statues. The Palace of Remus is described to be a golden palace filled with towering copper pillars. Trivia In the science-fiction novel Time Trekker, a character time-travels to ancient Remuria. While recounting his attempt to communicate with someone from that era, he comments that "at that time, I could not even pronounce 'Remuria,' with it coming out something more akin to 'Emuia'."[6] This suggests that the character pronounced R with a guttural R (the French pronunciation) instead of a rhotic one which the Remurians presumably used. Etymology Remuria is based on Ancient Rome, which in Roman myth was established by Romulus, who killed his twin brother Remus during a dispute over which hill to build their city on. In contradicting alternate ancient myths, Remus was the one to build the city and named it Remuria. The name may also reference Lemuria, a sunken continent proposed to explain the distribution of lemur fossils prior to the adoption of the concept of continental drift, and embraced by occultists as the home of a lost civilization similar to Atlantis. My personal theory: Phanes, Deshret/Amun, Remus, and Irmin were all the same person over different periods of Teyvat's history.... suffering from erosion the whole time.

nah, imo they represent the “major civilizations” of the past, namely Rome, Greece, Persia, Egypt, Indus and then there’s China, we don’t know about the American representations yet for China however (with the influence of CCP) it still exist which is Morax, him being the oldest is to conform with sino-supremacy and/or to not anger their CCP overlords, Liyue being a single line of unbroken civilization for 6000+ years with very little civil conflict(ironic considering their actual history) as to imply that today’s China and it’s current borders is the very same through out 3000+ years the same thing we can see in Arknights(another CN gacha game) with “Great Yan”

I think they're allegories but beyond that, I am not sure. I think they definitely represent some kinda aspect. I think Morax and Deca can also be considered among them in some aspects also. Irmin though, I think he has the strongest case.

@f.b.lagent1113 - all these major civilizations happened at different points in Teyvat's history, with some strange, all-powerful figure showing up with immense knowledge that changed everything. Only to then have a major collapse that was caused by forbidden knowledge and this mysterious ruler suddenly going mad. In each one, they had 4... sub-leaders, sort of. Shades, harmosts, pillars, whatever. I don't think there's a connection between all of that and Morax, unless he was one of the "4 shades" or something. That WOULD explain why the symbol on his back is there and why it looks so similar to the one on the Sustainer, but that's a tenuous connection at best.

Funfact, The legend of the founding of IRL Rome tells of two brothers competing for who would be the founder of the city, called Romolo ( who won and gave its name to the city) and Remo - Remus - Remuria.

Just bare minimum breakdown of everything about egeria and the downfall of remuria The lore about egeria isn't exactly in one place but scattered in many you have to piece most of it together so here it is The rule of Remus doesn't date back way before egeria was created In fontaine after the death of hydro sovereign the shade of life removed its heart and made a new one with her divinity but since the new heart didn't had any godly purpose it started roaming the waters visited the dragon city (which later on remus also visits to get the chalice) After she goes somewhere and meets the oceanids this part wasn't explained well probably because some event should've taken place or the oceanids are byproduct of dragon city (it was never said she created them as it contradicts other parts such as not all oceanids accepted becoming a follower of hers) they thought of her as a god/mother of all sea's since she was the heart of primordial sea but then her followers started to long to become like humans so she used a rough method to grant oceanids the appearance of a human but couldn't fully do it as she neither was a sovereign nor she was a God who could grant such things Her crude immitation angered celestia and she get's sealed in a chalice(yes the same chalice remus gets from the city of dragon and that's probably not a city of dragons but vishaps and where scylla if from maybe) then remus comes in picture celestia grants him authority to rule the kingdom but since he built his kingdom he selected 4 harmost gave them the power reserved only for gods(here the power is not said to be reserved for celestia but for gods it's something like what deshret morax barbatos had) Then he visits the dragon city he gets the chalice in which he got the power to use primordial water Remus gets to know from the dragons city about the prophecy he went mad slowly and destroyed his own kingdom and hunted the people of Egeria when he fell the great thief stole the chalice from him and freed egeria from her slumber and once again the age of fontaine started but this time it was under Egeria and later on focalors accepts to become one of egeria's followers and gets the body of a human some 500yr ago and splits herself from her divine ego and rest is history
