I just use the open GL for testing the animation. Also, you can get slightly different image quality from mixing GPU and CPU renders, that can cause flicker in your animation, best to be uniform and just use one or the other, obviously GPU is best. But great info. Thanks.

oh yeah, i always test a quick preview form of the animation to see if the cpu and gpu will produce different results for that particular animation.

Brilliant, why didnt I think of this before? Being trying for years to get Crowdrender to work with no success, plus it stores 100MB exr files of every frame, eating up your hard drive in a 2000 frame render!

how you do that? how you connect all computer?
@MichaelBridges3D
@MichaelBridges3D 3 жыл бұрын
All the computers have access to the same file and out put fold. I use a NAS, you could use dropbox as well or google drive / one drive etc ... any synchronisation service will do, then all the computers would need to be on the internet.

This is a really good idea and might just save my production. I just have one question, so if I were to render all of the files to the same place (I think I'm going to use Google Drive like you recommended) to get the placeholder method to work, how exactly would I go about setting Blender to output to Google Drive? Because it is not a regular folder in the File Explorer like a Network Attached Storage device would be.
@MichaelBridges3D
@MichaelBridges3D 2 жыл бұрын
YEs that should work, providing GoogleDrive will sync quickly enough to all the computers. Personally I would use a NAS or one of the PCs on the Local Network as the storage location .

You need to not have the render window showing. There is no actual need for it to be visible - the render bar shows the progress. Each frame renders faster if it is hidden.

It's really amazing, but I am using crowrender, I am having 4 pc. Master PC. Core i9 10gen, 2060 RTX, SSD, 32GB. NODE 1 i7, 32GB, SSD , GTX 1070, NODE 2 i7, 32GB, SSD, GTX 1060, NODE 3 i5, 32gb Rendering time 70% reduced, If I use 2000 as sample setting then It take only 5 minutes, before It was taking around 25 minutes. With 100 samples, Before - 2 mint 30 sec. And now 40sec only.

Hello, your video was really helpful, thank u ^^ One question: what should we do if we want to folllow that steps but with a video render , not a image sequence? :)
@MichaelBridges3D
@MichaelBridges3D 3 жыл бұрын
I really do not recommend rending direct to video, it takes exactly the same length of time to render an image sequence but you have (almost) no options to pause / recover a render if you are rendering and it stops for whatever reason. However, in the output tab change your file format to 'Ffmpeg Video' and under encoding set the container to 'MPEG-4'.

I have two low end older generation computers that I would like to try building a two nodes cluster. PC#1 i7 2600 with 16gb ddr3 ram and GT 1030 gpu with 2gb ram 240gb SSD 2,5gb Ethernet adapter PC#2 i7 3770 with 8gb ddr3 ram and GT 1030 gpu with 2gb ram 240gb SSD 2.5gb Ethernet adapter One two bay NAS. Are these hardware configurations OK for blender animation rendering? Thank you.
@MichaelBridges3D
@MichaelBridges3D 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure, if the frames render on the computers then you can use them in a cluster. The 3 computers next to one another are 2nd gen Core i5s with 1050tis so they get used during lighter renders

@MichaelBridges3D
@MichaelBridges3D 2 жыл бұрын
Quick update, whilst it doesn't have the options for placeholder/overwrite etc, it uses whatever you have set in the output properties, so if you have placeholders checked it will create them.
@Ecceptor
@Ecceptor 2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelBridges3D nice! so you need to save them in two place? One with output render, and one with "file output" node. I usually leave nothing in file output and save render using node.

@@Ecceptor yeah if you use the file output it will generate placeholders- but only if place holders is checked under the Output Properties > Output
