I have a PhD in organic chemistry. For the first time I truly understood why rate laws have rate constant, and concentrations of reacting species were multiplied! Noone taught was it from probabilistic point of view. I just loved it Alan!!!

The binding of the shark and the tuna to the detriment of the tuna -- well said! I love your analogy there! Thanks for another great video!

Thank you for posting these series of great lectures. Simply love the way the equations are clearly derived from simple logical arguments . I came to search on youtube after reading your book on "Modeling Life" . As a retired EE who spent a large amount of my previous time in simulation of electronics circuitry/systems , I wanted to see how others especially in the life sciences approach the simulation of " living systems" .Your book and these videos are a great way for me to to immerse in this fascinating field. Thank you for all you do especially in making these topics as clear as it can be !

Leng, thank you so much for these sweet comments. As a doubleE, you would probably like section 4.4 of the book, where we draw the analogy between the neuron and electrical circuit theory. We haven't video-ized that section yet, but we will next year. Thanks again -Alan

How do we know that k is exactly the probability that a successful reaction occurs?

Then a Biologist comes along and says....Tuna and sharks occupy different ecosytems, how do they meet?

The terminology "Shark/Tuna" was invented by me. While real sharks occasionally eat real tuna, I believe this is not typical. The problem is that the Lotka-Volterra differential equations are not a model for any real ecosystem, not "hares and lynx" our any other two-species ecosystem. I called it "Shark/Tuna" to avoid any comparisons with actual ecosystems and just focus on the model
