I've used Noire for a few years, I love the different noises - mechanics, pedal, felt, pianist, and room. It's easy to overdo it though. I'd also like to mention Spitfire's Intimate Grand Piano - great little instrument at a great price! Lastly, Fracture Sounds 'Spotlight Piano' has a nice soft tone with background ambience.

For under $150, I can't move past Noire. It's so beautiful. And the Intimate Grand Piano is fantastic too! I haven't dug in too deep in Spotlight Piano, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the rec!

BBC piano is nice, but suffers what a lot of good vst piano's have. Too much room or reverb that is in the sample so you cannot get a pure dry sound. I prefer closer mics to get a pure dry sound which I can add reverb or room too.

Thanks for the comment, I totally get what you mean. Noire and the Teletone Piano offer that pure dry sound you're talking about. It really does give you the most flexibility for spatial effects. I always try to have at least one beginner friendly plugin in these lists, and I felt like having the room baked into the BBC Piano would make it easy for those who don't want to fuss with other plugins.

That’s a great question. Most VSTs require you to use a DAW, so something like GarageBand, Reaper, Logic, Ableton, any of those kinds of programs. Once you open up a DAW you can access all your plugins and VSTs and start playing away. Here’s a video I found that should hopefully help you out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJjMc4B_qamXhdUsi=sR_3RbcPWsyC3IDr
