Also sometimes people dont know how to put there more nuanced and abstract feelings into words,. Like being able to clarify that this shop he created for their families future stability represents the dream he has for his family and his daughter in turn, which is just HAVING A BETTER AND SAFER LIFE. Not necessarily the shop itself. He just wanted Ember to be happy and safe and have a good future. I love this movie.

As someone who’s father had owned a small business and has wanted one of his daughters to take over the business, the dream was to have a successful business so that his children can live comfortably. None of my sisters intend on taking over my dads business because we are just not interested in that line of work (aerospace engineering/model making/inventing drones/planes/helicopters) But he would do anything for us. Actually, when he first watched elemental, he started crying at the end of the movie when they were saying goodbye. He has recently had several lifesaving surgeries, including open heart surgery, so he has been very thankful to be able to still be with us

First of: if there's oceans and lakes with no signs of waterpeople graves, there's definatly forrests and parks. Beside, there's companies who deliver alot wood to fire town that they eat, so paper and stocks made of wood is not from a dead tree. Just real tree's that grew in a forrest natrualy. No, Bernie wasn't manipulating Ember, it was miscommunication. Bernie believes that Embers dream is the shop, something he believes that will make her happy and bring her stability in life, that's why he wants to give it to her. Ember however doesn't tell him her true feelings, leading to him assuming that is what she wants...miscommunication. When Ember tells him that she does not want to run the shop, he clarifies this to her when saying she was the dream. It is further proven that he puts her happiness first when he lets Ember pursue glass making, her true dream with the man she loves. Maybe adding a little more dialogue would have prevented some people to think otherwise, but to me it is clear his dream is Ember to be happy, whether or not it be with the shop.

1- The train probably had special seats for pregnant women. However, when Amber's parents arrive, they are among the first fire people to arrive in Element City and they make it clear to us that the other elements do not like fire. So there are surely special seats, people just didn't want to give it to cindy because she was a fire person 2- Bernie didn't manipulate the speech, he realized how much pressure he was putting on Amber with that speech, so he changed it. "The shop was never the dream, You were the dream". He is left with the same context of the dream they always had, Now he simply realized what the real dream was. He doesn't dream about the shop anymore, He just wish his daughter to be happy and safe

Several things wrong with your assumptions: 1: The trees and greenery grow on top of the earth people as a form of hair, meaning that paper is actually made from basically hair clippings from the earth people, not dead members of their species. 2: The pregnant reserved seating is not reserved in real life, merely suggested and is definitely on the train, we see it later in the movie in the background. The reason she does not sit in it is because no one wants to give up a seat for her to let her sit down next to people she can harm with her presence. 3: The shop was never the "dream" it was a means to an end to support ember and the future generations. If you had kids you would understand where Burnie comes from. He wants to leave his children and grandchildren a way to support themselves easily for the rest of their lives and that's why he says that at the beginning of the movie. He counters that statement at the end of the movie because he sees that his children can find ways of supporting themselves on their own.

As for the paper theory, i think its alot like evolutional stages, the living tree people are evolved descendants in a pixar magic kinda way. Same with the fire and water and cloud people. Cuz ull notice all throughout the movie, there are element people and just elements. The water people came from the ocean, the cloud people came from the sky, and the tree/fire people came from a far away land. Wade can swim through water and keep his physical appearance or blend in with the water element around him. I absolutely love how pixar did this movie

Everyone keeps saying it’s a miscommunication of the father thinking Ember wanted to take over and re-evaluated the pressure he was putting on her. That’s a pretty surface-level analysis. I think the reality is, when he said the shop was the dream, it wasn’t literally translated as him wanting to dedicate his whole life to running a successful shop. The dream was to create a new life in the new city. To successfully create a safe and close community of fire people in the heart of a city that was unfamiliar to fire people. And most of all, to successfully create a stable and amazing foundation for their own family to live and thrive. So when he said the dream was the shop, I don’t think he literally meant the shop was his dream. I think it was an avenue for his true dream of creating a beautiful and new life for his own family, and generations of fire people to come. Him saying Ember was always the dream is just as true as him saying the shop was his dream. She just interpreted it as a child to mean she had to take over the shop. But the shop was only ever a means to an end. The same way immigrant families start out as nail artists so their kids can go to good universities and have stable lives. He made a beautiful community through his shop, and a stable place for his daughter to grow. But I don’t think he made it so his daughter could take over. She just interpreted that way, and since she seemed so excited to take over, and his true dream is seeing his daughter happy, he supported what he thought was her dream. I do think it’s a nice comparison to immigrant families in terms of pressure to fulfill a certain role. But I do think Ember’s father didn’t seem the type to force her. I think he only seemed that way because that’s what he thought Ember wanted.

Your commendation on this movie shows very little understanding of the movie. The most likely reason that they couldn’t sit on the train was because as fire everyone hated them and avoided them so no one would even considering giving up a seat for them. He wasn’t manipulating his daughter the dream was the shop in the sense that the shops success is what put them in a good position where their family didn’t worry the whole shops point was to take care of her. And paper could easily be made of the wood and leaf hair of the trees doesn’t have to be a dead body, and that assuming they make the same paper as is at all
