I started collecting in march last year. I definitely made some silly mistakes during my first few months but also learnt a lot throughout the year & know what’s better now.

I consider myself a casual collector just getting back into the hobby a few months ago. Though I love knowing the value of my cards/collection just because it adds an extra layer to the hobby and its comforting to know that if times got hard for me that I have a type of emergency backup in my cards/collection. It’s sad to see the state this hobby is in at the moment, hopefully ppl will chill the fck out on down the road and more casual fans can enjoy it more

@@Josshy not what im saying clearly, the point is DO NOT buy from scalpers, look at journey together, the pc etbs are like $300 rn. nobody should be advertising that as such, there are people who would just be like screw it, and buy a 50 dollar 151 booster bundle, it’s insanity
@tpnevermore353516 күн бұрын
He gets it straight from distributor 95% of the time

THANK YOU for point number three! You stated it very well and you did so without mocking the "Timmies." I really hate the divisive rhetoric that fills our world-in politics, religion, and even in small spaces like the Pokemon community. Having a clear-headed, inclusive discussion about how we feel about money might help to relieve some of the tension that's been rising in the hobby. A whole video on the subject would be great.

I got into Pokemon as a ten year old in 1999. I also played the TCG with the few kids that were actually willing to play it. I collected the cards up to about HGSS and stopped. I just recently got back into it again last year after buying the Indigo League anime. It made me dig out my old WotC cards, all of which are worn and beat up from play and being riffled on concrete sidewalks back in 1999/2000. I've focused on collecting battle-ready decks rather than booster packs and boxes. I play a few variants of solitaire with Pokemon cards, so I want functional cards rather than the pretty, hyped up stuff. Because of the card shortage, I'm giving my nephew a large chunk of what I've collected from Scarlet & Violet. I gave him my entire HGSS collection a couple of years ago. The kids deserve this stuff too. They're being shorted more than anyone right now.

Pokemon Era's are huge, it's also a very underlooked and obvious way of understanding how the market will evolve tbh. Good to point that out!!

This was a great video. There is so much backlash between pokemon collecting and investing since there is so little sealed product to purchase. There is currently not enough supply. I hope people are not grouping investors with scalpers. You covered it in a previous video but people should definitely watch it.

I definitely fall in the "blend of both" collector & investor camp. I actually enjoy the idea that buying & keeping a booster box sealed, that might grow in value, but I also only want 1 BB of each set. Or even booster bundles for special sets. But I'm still collecting raw singles for the binders & graded cards to display. I'm not investing in multiple cases of multiple sets to keep sealed or flip
@MrGough2216 күн бұрын
I cant leave anything sealed lol
@bencarlson430016 күн бұрын
I don’t personally get the appeal of sealed collections outside of the obvious monetary gains, the point of TCGs is the cards, and if you just have a sealed box… what’s the point?
@liambarfield310816 күн бұрын
I’m absolutely the blend of both. I’m in it because I enjoy it first and foremost. I collect 1 sealed PC ETB from each set for an investment that also looks nice displayed. I want to display some of my favourite cards which will naturally grow in value but I don’t intend to sell. But I absolutely love having a set to work on mastering, that part is pure joy. Currently working on WOTC team rocket and crimson haze. I doubt there’s any growth in CH but I love the set and how Japanese cards look. Collector first, investor second.

It’s ok to make mistakes in your first year of the hobby. Buying psa 9 over 10 in modern because you are scared of dropping that extra 80 dollars. For example I made that mistake but now I know. I’m still 15 bucks up on the card.😂
@Potatomasherdk13 күн бұрын
So you recommend only PSA10’s, no 9’s?
@Tekkzn13 күн бұрын
@ depends on the card. The problem with psa 10 is well it’s all eggs in one basket. It’s great for top 2 chase cards in the set. PSA 9 is great if you want a collectable to keep for a long time.
@rodpanhard15 күн бұрын
I have a question, from an investment standpoint is it worth buying a graded card that's PSA 10 if the card is not that rare and expensive but it's cheaper to buy than the cost of getting it graded?

The value of your Investments and the income from them can go down as well as up and is not guaranteed at any time. You may not get back the full amount you invested. Information on past performance is not a reliable indicator for future performance
