How did you make a texture out of the wireframe?

You gotta make sure you set all the polygons on your model to MAX UV. Changing the model after you set the projection to MAX UV will break the texture. So if you change the model at all, repeat the process of highlighting all the polygons and then set it to MAX UV again. Let me know if that answered your question.

For everyone trying to do this in 2024: Instead of searching for "UV Polygons," just switch to the regular Polygon mode. This enables "Max UV," and you're good to go. In the Octane node editor, there are different types of mix nodes and gradient nodes. To make this work, you need to use the right ones... ;) I hope this can save someone the headache I had. By the way, ChatGPT works well for solving issues between new and old UIs or finding simple solutions in Cinema 4D. I just learned that!
