Nice video, I cut the styrofoam down thinner, so it flushed up with the end of the controller sticks, then cut a piece of the thin stuff that also came in the packing as a sort of lid, put a rubber band around it and that’s what I’ve used since, didn’t know there was a piece to put across them.

Agreed. My guess is that the reason for exclusion is so they can constantly update the manual as they update the firmware thus making sure the customer always has the most recent manual. @josecid97597 жыл бұрын
Oops, correction. The iPad has wifi, but no cellular connection. Someone told me the gps map has to be downloaded. Not sure how??

Because it needs to be connected to the internet. So if you know where you are going to be turn on your IPAD at home and go to the location on your google maps. then make sure you zoom in and zoom out over the whole area you plan to fly your spark in and download all the maps for the area, road and satelite. The other way is to tether your Ipad to whatever phone device you have. Unfortunately in America Tethering is an additional to a cell phone pricing whereas here is South Korea it is standard. Hope that helps

Nice. Great tips. I hope I didn't come off too harsh in my comment on your previous video (even though I mentioned it wasn't personal). Something I just learned about my Spark (rather, the Spark in general) is that if you turn off obstacle avoidance, it'll fly 12MPH. This is good, because although it goes fast in sport mode, losing the gimbal control makes for super jittery video. However, when it's not in sport mode it only goes 6mph, and that's pretty slow. Turning off obstacle avoidance is kinda the happy middle, where video still looks smooth, but it's not crazy slow.
@McCAlexander7 жыл бұрын
That is a good point to find a happy medium on the speed. Thanks for sharing.
@kofuzi7 жыл бұрын
interesting. i'll have to try this out
@reconnaissancesquadron2226 жыл бұрын
This is THE BEST tip for a Spark. Obstacle avoidance simply isn't needed when you plan to be flying in open space twice as high as the trees nearby and the ability to fly fast while still having a tame gimbal makes all the difference. If you need to go faster than this then engage Sports mode, but accelerate gradually. If you have to cover a few hundred metres easing the stick forward gradually over three or four seconds won't give you much of a time penalty but it will ensure that the video you record could still look good. If you just shove it into Sports and ram the stick forward as hard as you can the gimbal often acts like it's broken its neck and takes quite a few seconds to recover.

I found some adaptors on Amazon that fit inside the end of a full sized usb cable that converts it to micro... and they have pins 4 and 5 linked, so insta otg with any usb/micro usb cable you have lying around. They were like 5 bucks for a 10 pack, and very handy for adapting memory sticks and such for direct plug in to a smart phone :-)

So since you said you use an "old" smart phone as a dedicated drone device, do you also have a data service plan with it to be able to use maps? Or can you load maps in to it pre-flight? @McCAlexander6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately when Apple, Android, etc stop supporting old versions of their operating systems the app developers usually stop their support as well. I don't know of any way to work with now obsolete technology but using a tablet or another device you have would help to save on the phone battery.

I had read in another article, that this feature could not be accessed on an iPhone with a cable, but it will be easy enough to check. I think I can just use my charging cable. @McCAlexander6 жыл бұрын
If you're asking if cell service is required to run the DJI app to fly: it is not. Wifi connection between drone and controller is required to fly
@reconnaissancesquadron2226 жыл бұрын
You don't need phone service. I use a tablet, it doesn't have a phone connection. I keep it updated via my home WiFi. When I am out "in the field" I sometimes set my phone up as a WiFi hotspot so I can connect the tablet to the internet for updates, sometimes when you connect a different "smart" battery it will need a firmware update. I can also download map data, while the app says it will cache the maps to use while offline it never seems to work, but you can cache the local area in a few seconds and then turn your phone off and the tablet's WiFi (I use the OTG cable to connect to the controller) and the tablet should keep that cache as long as you don't turn the app off again.

I have a Spark on way, and have a question I have not heard answered about the OTG cable method. My question is, the other two videos I watched and one guy even SAYS IT WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU GET HIS "kit" and I'm simply not buying that idea for those type "A" or normal size USB adapters can be found EVERYWHERE< so....but everyone I've seen do this uses TWO DIFFERENT cables? One with the female normal or type A male and female ends the one cable has the micro USB on other end while the other cable has the lightning plug on it's other end and I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THIS IDEA....BUT They sell MUCH MUCH shorter cables that HAVE a micro USB on ONE end and the lightning plug on THE OTHER end....so why the heck would you put TWO cables that sometimes equal 6 feet in order to do this vs say the cable I ordered from Amazon and hoping like hell works hahaha!! For that is what I purchased a 6"nice short cable with each end being what I need to connect iPhone/iPad to micro USB the lightning end is a 90 degree as not to "stick out" of the grips of the controller. WHY WONT'T THAT WORK?? OR WILL IT??? Do you have the answer to this question?? For see NO NEED in the two cables 6 feet of cable only to connect 4" apart from each other? Am I wrong and if so what am I missing?? haha For I've been connecting my iPad and iPhone to a flat screen TV by HDMI that I use a a second monitor....same theory correct or no? Please answer asap for Spark is ON WAY!! I just want to be ready and have what I need when it arrives. Thanks and great video. L8r-Turbo

Valter Hermeneanu, same with mine. Not to mention it didn't show, altitude, distance or speed while connected via otg. Only time it showed was WiFi to the controller.

After some search i found that. The OTG cable worked with DJI GO 4 ver. 4.1.15. With next versions do not work.
@McCAlexander6 жыл бұрын
looks like DJI has fixed that issue as I flew today with OTG and had no issues.

You do not get the maps without cell service.

Use a new WiFi channel each flight, the lower numbers are better as they are 2.4 ghz.

When your using the OGT put your phone in airplane mode . You don't want a phone call to come in while flying you will lose your connection

This is a tips video, not a hack video. And OTG works for Android and iOS

There is no difference between OTG cable and wifi connection. ..... Oh... there is a difference: almost 0,01% video latency and range.

so you're saying I got a chance...

And definitely don't use an Android device. I love my little Sparky, either though 1080p sucks.
@McCAlexander7 жыл бұрын
Have you flown with both iOS and Android? Why do you suggest this? What differences do you see?
@jamesm5687 жыл бұрын
McC Alexander I find flying with an Android device very unreliable and unstable. When using a iOS device the DJI software is very stable and performance is much better.
@McCAlexander7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I really do not plan on buying a new device for this but your experience leaves me wanted to do some more research on the topic.

McC Alexander DJI seems to cater towards Apple products as with Android if the DJI app works consider yourself lucky.

Clickbait title... not one single "HACK" here! (Sans the poster) Need to replace the word "hack" with "tips" at best. "Use a dedicated device", "get the remote controller"... hardly "hacks". 👎👎
