The essential aspect of Islam is 'Purity' (طهارة ) ṭahāra(h). The opposite to 'Tahārah' is 'Najāsa' and this is known as been in the state of being ritually impure. By means of 'wudu or ghusl' these physical impurities or ritual impurity are removed from the body. The Four Stages of 'Nafs' (self) in the Holy Qur'an ... 1. The inciting Nafs (An-Nafs Al-ʾAmmārah) 2. The self-accusing Nafs (An-Nafs Al-Luwwāmah) 3. The inspired Nafs (An-Nafs Al-Mulhamah) 4. The Nafs at peace (An-Nafs Al-Muṭmaʾinnah). In Islamic Law there is five categories of 'Al-ahkam Al-khamsa' ... 1. Wajib/fard (obligatory), 2. Mustahabb/mandub (recommended), 3. Mubah (neutral), 4. Makruh (disapproved), 5. Haram (forbidden). The Holy Qur'an : Verse of Purification (آية التطهير) known as the 'Ahl al-Bayt' (people of the house). (33:33) :God only desires (innama yuridu llahu) to remove defilement (rijs) from you, 'O Ahl al-Bayt', and to purify you completely. Upon this He said: The Prophet RAS (pbuh) about purification ... A Muslim who purifies (himself) and completes purification as enjoined upon him, by Allah (swt), and then offers the prayers, then he will be expiation (amend the sins he committed), between these (prayers). This means that Allah (swt) will forgive his sin through the 'Process of 'Purification' . This must be done by performing sincere supplications, prayers, and acts of charity toward others. This is because we will be judged on the 'Day of Resurrection' according to the 'Purity of our Hearts'. And the righteousness of our deeds. The Three types of Purification in Islamic hygienical jurisprudence ! 1. Cleanliness during salat 'wudu' (partial ablution, 2. Ghusl (full ablution), 3. Toilet etiquette. The Purification of Nafs ...is a process of transformation were the 'Nafs '(carnal self or desires), is detached from the state of self-centrality. (ego). This process is achieved through various 'spiritual stages' on, the level & understanding of the 'Purity and Submission' to the Will of Allah (swt). The Dua to cleanse the 'Nafs' ... “O Allaah ! I seek your refuge from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, decrepit old age, and punishment of the grave. O Allaah ! Grant my soul its dutifulness (Taqwaa), and purify it, You are the One to purify it: You are its Guardian and its Lord. ...
