The fact that one of these still exists in fully functioning restored condition, is an act of a miracle. The amount of time, money, and labor that went into the restoration, is baffling. Folks this isn’t no where near like restoring a classic car. This is a feat of the nearly impossible. To see one of these running, and driving is like literally seeing a hen that has teeth. This was a feared menace on the battlefield. Nothing allied could destroy it except air support. One shot from this bad boy, from literally any range was an instant guaranteed kill on anything it faced. It was a nearly unstoppable force to be reckoned with, and all you could do was hope and pray it broke down, or air support was literally within seconds of destroying it.

5:39 - a sight you wouldn't want to see 76 years ago! What makes this tank look so good is its near-perfect ballistic shape, with shot traps completely eliminated. This was also true of the Panthers, after they added a chin on the mantlet. Unfortunately (fortunately for us), the mechanicals weren't up to the job. No idea why they didn't go to diesels. Nice drone work, BTW.

Interesting how they always have to drive slow and can never neutral steer even in sharp turns. Its almost like the Tiger 2 had some big problems with the transmission and they would risk breaking the entire tank if they would attempt to do so.

68 t was almost beyond the limit of technology at the time. 5 years earlier such machines would be almos a dream. All in all, it is an impressive achievement.
@prodem1065
@prodem1065 4 жыл бұрын
@@VRichardsn Other nations also made extremely big and heavy tanks. They just never went into full production because of various reasons. Just a couple of examples: - M6 Heavy tank(first standardised variants were adopted in May 1942). As the name says this was not a prototype but a aproved heavy tank(US Prototype tanks are named T flollowed by a number). It weight 56 tons and was equipped with a 925 HP engine and HVSS suspension giveing it fairly good mobility when compaired to pritty much any german heavy tank. The reason why it never went into mass production was because most ship cranes couldnt lift more then 40 tons. While germans could transport their tanks with trains which are extremely easy to load and unload US tanks had to be brought by ship after all. The transmission on the M6 was also very unreliable. - T28 Super heavy tank. Was designed and build to break threw the siegfried line in 1944. It had 4 tracks, a 105mm high velocity gun, 300mm of frontal armor weight 86.2 tons and for some rediculous reason ordinance branch decidet it would be a good idea to give it the same ford V8 engine as the one on the M4A3 sherman, decpite the fact that there were more powerfull engines available. It could barely excelerate above 10km/h. The design was so underpowerd that after testing they left the prototype out on the testing field where it would sit and rott for 80 years before being recoverd. - T29 family. The T29 had a 105mm gun(same as on the T28), in a heavyly armored(much heavyer armor then on the Tiger 2) turret aswell as hull and it weight 64 tons. The engine was fairly powerfull but needed some improvements. All in all it was a good tank prototype and 1200 of them were orderd for the invasion of Japan (They where cancled as the bombs fell). I said T29 family because there were two other tanks following the T29. The T30 which had a better engine (The engine was very successfull and would later be used in the M46, M47 and early M48). The tank also had a bigger turret then the T29 which would house a 155mm cannon which was basicly a coppy of the very successfull atillery gun sometimes called the "long tom". First 600 were orderd for production but then cancled because despite having two loaders, 2 pice ammunition and a spring rammer installed in the turret for easyer loading, the loaders would still be overworked. The tank was however later used as a test bet for various shell types. I forgot where exactly but some testing facility took it and it served them for a long time. The T34 was the last tank in the series. It was just a T30 with a 120mm anti aircraft gun, one of the most cannons ever mounted on a tank. It would later be used in the M103 heavy tank.

Question: At 2:21 a gear is passed but the clutch have been non touched. How is it possible ?
@WJHJ
@WJHJ 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a semi automatic gearbox, a bid similar as you have in modern sports cars. So you use the clutch to get started but then when you are on the move you only need to change the stick, to change gears. In my other videos you can compare this gearbox for example with the one in the Stug III and the one in the Panther 😉 in my video of the Sd.kfz 10 you can see an other kind of semi automatic gearbox. There you use the clutch to start off but when moving you can change the stick without the gears changing, the gearbox “prepares” the gear for when you need it and push the clutch 😉

Flipflops Guy Im no armor nor tank expert but from what I know, people tend to admire tanks in general for their characteristics such as armor, gun, and mobility but if were speaking of armor maybe its because these tanks are made out of pure steel unlike the modern tanks of today which has secret formulas in their armor layout, tanks in the WW2 era are mostly just steel that varies in thickness and that these steel needs to endure some punishment in order to be effective....
