You're doing a great job. Don't let anyone give you a hard time for teaching yourself a new skill. It's what makes life interesting. That being said in the future you should try to keep the seams away from the corners of windows and doors they are likely to crack open as the house shifts with the seasons.

As a 20 yr drywaller, you should be proud. It’s not easy. Be patient with yourself with the mudding and taping. I suggest going with a texture because smooth walls are very hard to perfect. Also, if you’re going to be doing this more often, buy a Roto Zip. You can master it in a day and it makes your job way easier

Should hook(extend) your joints over the headers. Don’t use the impact, much quicker. Adding blocking under the top sheet is okay for people who don’t know what they’re doing. Time consuming though. Looks good. Maybe try rotozipping your boxes/panels/etc. good job, I’ve seen a lot worse. Happy taping
@tonyf8992
@tonyf8992 Жыл бұрын
For the bottom sheet instead of all the blocking I'd suggest sheetrock jacks (at least that's what I always call em') Just a little flat piece of metal, with a round in the center to use as a fulcrum. Just kick the jack under the sheet and step on it and you get a good few inches of movement up and down

You're doing it! It's all part of the learning process. I see a few areas that will likely come to light in the nearish future, but that is also part of the learning process. It's all fixable for the go getter.

Nice work. Can always lay bottom row first to ensure you have proper spacing for flooring depending on what you’re going for in the finish look, plus you got a shelf for the upper section while hanging. Don’t forget to mark them studs top and bottom to save time later on screwing

Nice job man! I just did my garage for the first time too. Mudding and tapping really sucks. Definitely use the paper tape on the corners and use grid or fiber tape on the other joints. I used paper on everything and it was tough. Anyway that’s my tip from one inexperienced guy to another. Cheers! Good luck!

I found that magnet tool at the local home reno store drywall isle before the last drywall job and it sure beats the old pin , pound an d trace tool I had. Tip, take a permant marker and put an up arrow on each magnet so you don't accidently get it upside down on the trace before you cut it with the plunge cutter. Can't wait to see this guy's taping and mudding technicque. With most novices there usually is allot of sanding needed but I like his enthusiasm. I'm far from a pro but after twenty or so reno's and making every mistakein the book I'm starting to get pretty good at it.

One suggestion to match these other tips. Don't put butt joints over the corners of openings. It's better to butt them in the middle or no butt at all over door and window openings and some larger openings that get drywalled.
@keithprocter141
@keithprocter141 Жыл бұрын
If you run the board vertically you don't have any butt joints in the wall, except at corners, and it's much easier to lift in place because it's sitting on the floor - you get a foot lever to lift it up tight to the ceiling.

I've done cheat rock a few times and I'm not trying to be mean when I say this statement. It is much easier to put the bottom sheet on the wall and then leave top sheet. It gives you something to set it on you don't need a board.

Screw the magnet tool. Take a little offcut of drywall and run the cut edge along the box. Line your wall piece up with where it goes and give it a tap. It'll put a white outline of your box right on the back of your drywall. Perfect stincel to cut out.

Pro-tip: get you a belt to hang your drill on. (Use an impact driver if you can). Saves you from having to try to reach it with your foot while balancing drywall over your head. Tuck your shirt in. It makes hanging your drill easy. Get a magnetized bit-holder, don’t just use a straight phillipshead bit. The magnet holds your screws for you. Buy a good one. It’ll cost you like 5 or 10 bucks but it’ll be worth it because of the stronger magnet.

You don’t nee to use magnet. You can use scrap drywall itself to score the outside of whatever you are tryin to cutout and the put your piece tap it and you will get that outline of your piece on the back of the drywall.
