Maybe that should be a question for potential stylists. Take a picture of the Guido sisters to your consultation appointment and ask them, do they look familiar to you? Does Manes by Mell ring any bells? Finding someone to cut curly hair properly is a struggle, especially when you don't have a clue going in. Years ago I remember sitting in the chair with my glasses off and then hearing this tearing sound. It was the stylist ripping at my curls with a razor. I had no clue this was a no no on curly hair.

I did not lose a single curl and my hair doesn’t feel dry. Thank you SO MUCH for making such a detailed tutorial. Now, time to binge your maintenance videos!!

I just had the harsh harsh realization that my stylist when I was a kid was actually coloring and styling my hair such that it would actually look decent should I embrace my natural texture. (And yes, she did wear her 3b hair natural, and yes, she did almost exclusively work on thicc hair). Thanks Jill. You loved me before I learned to love myself.

I have ALWAYS wanted to know the behind the scenes magic that hair colourists do. Thank you this was fascinating. The only part I felt I would mess up is blending the roots. 😂
@ManesByMell4 жыл бұрын
LOL thats probably the easiest part! but also only optional for that seamless blend! Many people prefer brightness right to the root so you can just highlight and tone all over!

I saw an article today about how local salons were putting together take-away home-color kits for their existing clients so they can touch up their roots at home while not ruining their color for the next time they get to the salon. (Personally, I stopped coloring in 2013 and grew out my gray, so this isn't something I need to worry about!)

Lol I wish I could have you do my hair at least one good time ❤️❤️. I’ve been blonde for a while, and the last time I went to get my roots touched up, I left the salon with no curl pattern whatsoever. I was fighting back the tears as I was driving home 😭😭. I found out the reason why my hair was so damaged was because my stylist had previously put dark PERMANENT COLOR on my roots to blend everything out, and then months after when I need my roots rebleached, my stylist bleached the permanent color in my hair twice in one session with 40 volume developer......needless to say I know now EXACTLY what to look out for when it comes to having someone do my hair. Your videos have definitely helped me! ❤️❤️❤️

Adore you, Mell! I found you at random a few months back and even though I have 4C hair, a lot of what you teach can be applied to my hair and it's been life-changing. I've only started embracing my natural hair in the past 2 years, and, to keep this short because I know ain't nobody got time for reading my hair story, I had no CLUE what I was doing. The methods you use, the rules you 'break', it's all been essential in bringing life back to my hair. I'm now ready to try coloring it, for better or worse haha (you've got me feeling confident). Everywhere online says to color it dirty, but you washed your hair first here. Would you say coloring it while the hair is 2-3 days into a wash'n'go would be a bad idea?

For those of us who have gray hair to cover up especially in the front temples, 50%,, how would I apply a permanent? Knowing that a permanent hair color uses 20% volume and it will change the root color. Let's say YOU had to cover up 50% gray in the front temple/ crown how would you handle that without making the roots dark? this is my dilemma- I don't want dark roots I would want them a dark blonde color but it always turns warm with 20 volume permanent hair color. I've tried a semi and a demi and they don't cover gray roots. Though my base level is about 4 I would want the root color about a level 7 so there isn't such a contrast with my very blonde highlights.
