This was helpful. Please make an edition with a True Tone or leather cover! Hardcovers don't hold up well. And even if you're very careful, the pages tend to curl/fold at the corners.

The Bible is fact and truth masked as literature and story. Other sources of literature frail in comparison. It's like the Bible's intent wasn't to be literature, but wins first place as literature.

how about discussing a "literal" approach to the bible? Am I supposed to believe a 600 year old man built a boat big enough to hold 7 pairs of every living thing?

@@christinafidance340 And if the Bible isn't to be taken literally? Then who gets to choose what stories are "literal" and which ones are allegories?

God is God. None of us was present when He made the world. Our finite minds sometimes only want to believe that the limits are with us and only believe things that can be physically shoved into a testube or subjected to some other finite, physically based human experiment. Whether we are talking about what He establishes or sustains, His ways are beyond our ways and beyond finding out. He can do what He pleases with or without our understanding.

@@guntherultraboltnovacrunch5248 there are a number of possibilities. 1) catholicism, where someone else decides what matters 2) learn basic exegesis 3) follow the double commandment of love, love God and thy neighbor, which Jesus said is the essence of the Bible and take it from there. Martin Luther believed that everything needed for salvation is outlined quite clearly in the Bible. What other parts one thinks are important is indeed a matter of interpretation. And many verses are rather unclear. Jesus himself interpreted the OT very much similar to the tradition of his time. So exegesis was always a thing. And probably the most interesting thing about Christianity in the first place. Until evangelicals came along and decided somewhere in the 19th century that only the literal interpretation is relevant. Which historically never really was the main line of exegesis. Also - when taking only the literal sense, one is missing much of the meaning. And problems arise like, would one really rip out his eye when it makes you sin?

Quite right, the Bible isn't interesting enough to function as art! The first 7 chapters of Chronicles, you may as well be reading the phonebook and Song of Solomon reads like a cheap Harlequin Romance.
