The "Franklin's" experience means you're waiting a long time. Most people know this going in. If you know this ahead of time, then you shouldn't bitch about the wait time. Glad you liked the food!

I am glad to get your reviews for the turkey and sausage. Those are usually two of the items I get at all the Texas BBQ places I visit. I enjoy this second BBQ tour series. Thanks to you, Mitch, and Chargriller grills for making this happen.

I tried Franklin's last weekend and the brisket and beef ribs were amazing. I personally think Franklin's is worth doing at least once. Like many people have said, the wait is part of the experience. You get to talk with others who love BBQ as much as you do. I think it's funny how the guy doing this video is complaining about the wait and not getting food when he decides to show up at after 8am and only expects to wait 2 hours. Jack should know better. Had he done his homework he should have been in line by at least 6am if not 4am. That's how it works. Take it or leave it but don't walk into Franklin's knowing there are long waits and then start complaining. I am glad I went to Franklin's first because then I had a reference point to judge other BBQ joints. We visited Terry Black's BBQ the next and day were more impressed with their BBQ than Franklin's. For my money, I wouldn't wait in line again at Franklin's because I can go to Terry Blacks and get better BBQ but I still think Franklin's makes an amazing brisket and beef rib. Plus I met some great people while waiting in line.

While a great many are willing to wait hours to have their first Franklin's experience, I suspect a vast majority will never do it a second time.

Not "sorry"...but the line can be FUN. Bring a lawn chair, read a book, make new friends and be social. If you want the best BBQ in the world, which is found in Texas, most good places will greet you with a line. It's part of the experience and means something...the food is good and your taste buds will be happy.

As a business not smart just smoking 3 butts but as cool hip BBQ place that runs out of food and makes a good profit every day id say they will stay open and do good vs most places. Its more for a young crowd older grumpy guys are not gonna like waiting for anything.
@jackonthego6 жыл бұрын
So your saying that young crowds are okay with waiting to be in a hip BBQ place with no food. Um...Okay. I'm glad I'm not young.
@2birie4life966 жыл бұрын
When you were there what would you say the age difference was under 40 vs over 40??Like would you say the crowd there was more people under 40? Or would you say lots of folks over 40?
@2birie4life966 жыл бұрын
I'm also saying younger people are more willing to wait in a line vs a older person. I asked my co workers all over 50 if they would wait over an hour for the BBQ there I showed them your video and told them about it and 1 of 6 said yes they would then I asked 8 people in there 30's and 20's and all said hell yea they would wait and drink a beer while they wait and I have seen people there almost tail gaiting while they wait.
@BeastMortThe6 жыл бұрын
So it's considered cool and hip to run out of food daily, because you didn't make much of it to begin with? Let me open up a hot dog shop and sell one hot dog and then make claims that my place is so hip cause I run out fast and daily. lol
@jackonthego6 жыл бұрын
I would say all ages. There were elderly people in lawn chairs when I arrived and then young ones came after I arrived. It was all nationalities. This place did score high with us. I get why it's world famous. We just had the one issue with scarcity. We were #46 in a line of over 100 and that was just the first hour of a 5 hour day for them.

You gotta try Micklethwait meat works down the street from Franklin's! It's my personal favorite! Advice from a Local.

Yes, Micklethwait is as good as, if not better than Franklins for brisket and pork ribs. My favorite in Austin is La Barbeque.

Are y’all going to Snow’s bbq?
@crooked-halo5 жыл бұрын
I've been to the vast majority of the Texas Monthly top 50, and long ago I decided Snow's is, to me, the best. Franklins can't even compare to Snow's brisket and ribs.

Running out of Meat is a Marketing scheme too create a hype about the restaurant, which is why they have lines forming around the block. I hate waiting in lines, but if I was ever in Austin, I would probably wait in the ridiculous long line and pay the exuberant prices, just because Franklin's has become such a BBQ Mecca.
@crooked-halo5 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Price - Wrong. Running out of meat is running out of space on a limited number of wood fired smokers that take up tons of room when you're smoking meat for 8-10 hours and don't have time or room to smoke more.
@mattg72716 жыл бұрын
Confirms my theory...no food is worth waiting three hours for. Try Salt Lick in driftwood, best beef ribs I’ve ever had.

With shows like this, the thing is, it's all an opinion. I've met plenty of folks who like other places better than Franklin's meats. I think Micklethwaits, also in Austin, has better pork ribs and brisket than Franklins. However, someone else might think Franklins is the best, or La Barbeque (Austin). Speaking of La Barbeque, I rate their brisket better than Franklins, and the pork ribs are a tie. Franklins is absolutely amazing, and the line is part of the fun, part of the Franklins experience. Bring a lawn chair, bring a book, meet some new friends in line and be social. Enjoy the line instead of complain. The thing about pulled pork is that, in Texas, it's just not as popular of a meat, so you'll find lower quantities. These foreigners need to do some geographical homework and give grace to meats that aren't as prevalent in certain locales. Jack On The Go's "points" are ONLY important to Jack. I respect their opinion, but an opinion is just like an asshole...everyone's got one and it's only useful to the owner.
@billmitchell77316 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding me 3 butts. They should know better than that by now. They know how big there crowds are. And butts are the cheapest meat. Ribs look to done.
@vwisse6 жыл бұрын
Ribs looked great and the beans sound fantastic. However 3 hours wait no thanks. I don't care how good a place is, no food is worth a 3 hour wait. Also that small amount of pulled pork for such a popular place is ridiculous. They should make more.
@wordkyle6 жыл бұрын
You are going to get reamed for not loving Franklin's. However, I've always thought that place was over-hyped and that it's popularity was due to a) Having pretty good food; and b) Being in Austin, a place where telling people you stood in line for four hours to eat BBQ somehow gains you prestige points. I appreciate your frank reviews. (Although I think you might be using a bit of a southeastern BBQ scorecard, even with your adjustments.)

Jason Halverson it's a college town. College kids have time to stand around in a line for three hours and wait on mediocre food. After three hours waiting in line......a bowl of cereal would taste awesome! There is NO way I would stand in line for three hours for anything they served in this video. Lol!
