The new LABS interface is pretty ass

What are you talking about? The graphic designer deserves a raise of at least another rusk. 😊

The design is really good, but it lags and slow
@brianmcneil2762 ай бұрын
it's more the slowness and glitchyness that sucks the look is fine to me

I might be the only person who likes the illustrated vibe of the new version. It reminds me of textbooks I had back in the elementary days. As for the interface itself, it seems to be based on the original circular controls. I haven't noticed anything different except for some not so great font choices.

The new LABS browser has a filter top left, which can be used to view free content only, if that is what you need 👍

I may be misunderstanding, but I think the Originals, etc that are now in LABS have less controls than the earlier versions. I wouldn't be surprised if management had this grand LABS+ plan to carry them through 2024 until they can make new LABS instruments for next year. But a lot has changed this year, and there are now a number of people making LABS types of free monthly instruments. So they really need to step it up, especially if they want the subscription version to be worth subscribing to.

Yeah Les’s controls so they’re kind of like Originals lite versions almost, less sounds and controls but same samples / project essentially…
@lessismore742 ай бұрын
@@DixonBeats I was bummed when I found out, because I have the Abe Laboriel drums, and to really get so much out of them you need to have those extra controls.

The case for sample to midi conversion is weak. Multi-instrument, polyphonic samples are too complex to convert….so, you’d have to isolate the part you want to convert, first. Often, I can play the part more accurately than the midi conversion. Ok…. for non-musicians audio to midi can be useful and I’m sure it will improve when AI adds predictive logic to the process. But….isn’t there a bigger issue with non-musicians composing songs with complex midi that they couldn’t possibly play?
@lessismore742 ай бұрын
@@jeffagoddard Speaking to your final sentence, are you under the impression that the great composers of the classical age had mastery in each of the instruments they wrote for? Because what is sheet music if not early MIDI? Coming closer to home, I find this attitude a lot from people who don't seem to understand that it can be taken to extremes which essentially eliminate most of us from the implied “right” to music performance. For instance, why should a guitarist be allowed to perform when they haven't demonstrated proficiency at lutherie? How many pianists are actually able to make pianos? Why do we allow solo performers to use backing tracks rather than expecting them to simultaneously drum and sing and play guitar? And who gets to decide who is a musician or “non-musician?” We can forget that many if not most of the great artists are not necessarily great instrumentalists. And we forget that music, like the rest of art, is only partly about proficiency, and mostly about expression and connection with the human experience. The ones who master that are the ones who seem to be most successful. I don't think they feel threatened by new technology that makes expression easier for any who are interested.

The free spitfire labs is tough to beat. Great sounds! Lots of new competitors with sampled instruments, but spitfire still impresses me. Whadda they got….60+ free instruments?

Yeah defo lots of free ones! Had a bit of a hard time by people recently because of their subscription though…

Ive already purchased the Piano and Choir 1, is there any upgrade price?
@DixonBeats2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much we appreciate that, we price the VST plugins as low as we can and still be able to keep us afloat and making more. We can’t offer an upgrade price at the moment as the price for the new one £18 is the cheapest we could go and still keep making more. With that being said, we would like to say thanks somehow to people that have brought from us before, so we are thinking about ways to do that weather it be exclusive freebies to customers only or something like that to show our appreciation. I hope you understand and thanks so much for previously trying out our stuff 🙏

Am I wrong or does Ableton have a WAV to MIDI conversion tool, similar to notegrabber? I don't have a bass guitar and I've wondered about recording a bass line with my regular guitar and then convert the sample to midi to use Martinic's Kee Bass or something
@DixonBeats2 ай бұрын
It does indeed! I think the one I showed claims to be more accurate! I can’t confirm or deny as I haven’t used it nowhere near as much as I’ve used the Ableton one…
@hereisrich2 ай бұрын
Yep, Ableton does. I find it works best in harmony mode all the time, and you can prevent the overtones and undertones on octaves by EQing the sample pre-conversion and filtering out the very low and high ends. It works best with plucked instruments (think guitar, piano, harp) and worst with pads with tons of LFO.
@therealajnelson2 ай бұрын
@hereisrich that's good to know and I think it should work out pretty good then for what I'm trying to accomplish. Many thanks for the tip!

Love the art style on Labs but my workflow went outside somewhere and never came back lol. Too much going on with just picking a preset for me.

FL already had that note grabber feature 😅
@DixonBeats2 ай бұрын
Yeah like I say in the video, daws have audio to midi features but this claims to be better and more accurate. I can’t confirm or deny I’ve only used it a hand full of times and it’s done okay 👌🏻 I do use Ableton a lot for this and that works fine in my opinion too…
@user-lt2rw5nr9s2 ай бұрын
The one in Edison is monophonic. The technique with Wave Candy's spectrum analyzer is the closest. Though, it was an audio assault on my ears always looping short parts while drawing. Note Grabber puts a piano roll on top of the spectrum, which imo is an improvement over stock.
