Good info thanks, can you also please make video on adding borates or boric acid?

Hi Steve. I live in an apartment complex ith a large saly water pool. I have noticed that only 50 % of the jets and skimmers are working. I'm in Tennessee and we have had 90 degrees plus for weeks. I spent some time yesterday in the pool cleaning out skimmers baskets and using the complexes skimmers net and walked around for an hour straight just to get debris bugs hair ect. A few Weeks ago the pool was shut down for repairs. I understand that a pump needed replacement. I was bad the I could see it was cloudy and milk looking. Should the complex be running at 50% filtration? I assume that during peak times like weekends that the pool should be tuning over continously.

What about above ground pools? Which pool is best with salt water filter?

I just bought a beach property in Sogod bay Philippines. A resort near me just pumps the sea water into their pool, They swap it out every 3 days and never have to worry about filtration. I am thinking of copying their model.

What are the big differences between systems with one pump cell and filter and those with two or more. Thank you.

I’m starting to learn so much about our pool and that maybe the maintenance company….. doesn’t know as much or is overly lazy. Along with the lack of info the builders gave us. 😲🤔

Why did Canada ban saltwater systems and why is it basically impossible to purchase salt cartridges; do you think there is a valid health risk?
@Swimmingpoolsteve2 жыл бұрын
I am a Canadian Pool worker a d I have never heard anything about Canada banning saltwater pools. Pretty sure they have not done this. If anything, restrictions on discharge water.

Salt is the only way to go. Not even an argument about it

Here's my litmus .. if you have children or grandchildren get a salt water pool .. Vs .. if your pool is an expensive fountain and foot washer then use regular chlorine. What you failed to mention is the chlorine count is considerably lower in a saltwater-based pool. For small children this is by far the biggest benefit including the slightly added buoyancy. Other than that I have a good pool guy, I don't care about the cost I care about my children and grandchildren that's it that's all that matters.
@Swimmingpoolsteve3 жыл бұрын
Chlorine count considerably lower - this is definitely not accurate. Regardless of whether you buy chlorine and add it manually or generate your own chlorine from salt, the chlorine level in the water is EXACTLY equal to the amount of chlorine you add. If safety for children is your primary concern then I would be extremely worried that your pH is above 8.0 as it is for the vast majority of salt chlorine pools, and at pH this high chlorine is almost completely ineffective in the water even with a measurable value present. If you wanted something technically safer "for the kids" it would be traditional chlorine treatments from a source that does not induce a constantly high pH like chlorine derived from salt does. I like salt water chlorine, very convenient, but factual information is even more important so that pool owners can make an informed purchase decision. Cheers.

In any case, if you don't have a properly chemically balanced pool it's irrelevant what you use! Again good pool guy versus some hack or DiY dummy.

@@Swimmingpoolsteve .. I guess my added comment came in a same time as your reply. *A chemically F'ed pool .. isn't an argument of one type better than another.* Also, unless you make daily Non-Stop adjustments to your chlorine pool it's never going to be as chemically stable as a saltwater-based pool.
@gertsy20002 жыл бұрын
You are correct. It's clear you meant ppm of free chlorine where 2ppm (For Salt) is considerably lower than 4ppm (for conventional). If a pool owner can't manage to keep their PH around 7.2-7.4 then they shouldn't have a saltwater pool. The same applies to a conventional pool and chlorine dosage.

You neglected to include the most important benefit of salt water pools and that is a COMPLETELY fixed level of isocyanuric acid (stabilizer). You decide what level you want to set it to, add enough stabilizer powder to get to that level, and you're done. No longer will you have to wonder where your stabilizer level is and how much detrimental effect it's having on the sanitation capacity of your free chlorine. You will never have to (completely or partially) drain your pool ever again just to reduce the stabilizer level. That is a critical benefit of a SWG pool that you completely ignored. I don't get it?

Thanks for your input! I’m trying to decide on a SWG system. It’s hard to know if I have all the pros & cons. Does Swimming Pool Steve ever respond to comments?

Absolutely right @chuckschilling. For example, at the beginning of season 2021, my CYA level was around 50ppm. Now nearing the end of the season, my CYA is around 47ppm.
