maybe i missed it. but can you program this so the red and green changes with speeds. for instance i have b and d vs and have 4 different timers during the day/night. so if i converted my existing flow vis (which is hard to read because it is in a hard to read spot ) i would like to have a different red/green for the different programs.
@jamesortolano3983Күн бұрын
@@terry5477-h6k i would say YES , if you can figure out your flow rate in diameter of pipe to amount of time to equal your volume of water in gallons /litres . Then once that has been calculated determin your green light flow compared to what will be your red light flow at that giving point / time amount . the equation for determining amount of gallons in a pool ,is real simple LxWxDepth but you have to convert to inches then once you have your # in inches divide the product by 231 to give you a number of how many gallons you have in pool .

I am not sure. I think this product was developed before variable speed pumps and my impression is that is would only give a red signal for one speed not performing as intended. This would work very well for a one speed pump, but leave some room for improvement for variable speed pumps as you indicate here. I will touch base with the manufacturer and make them aware of this comment and feedback and maybe they have already addressed this or plan to address it soon. They did mention to me they are working on a variable speed pump integration for sending flow data to the pump itself, so it would be interesting to get their feedback here. Cheers.

This is great , it keeps set parameters displayed. Obviously my next question is how much flow , and at what times in the day ? My instinct is to first determine how much pool water is available and what exchange is necessary to make adequate adjustments for clean circulation. Lots of information here steve thanks for bringing this to our attention, another great resource. Your channel has provided for our benefit in becoming more proactive in pool maintenance.

Random note about heating (not to disagree with anything said in the video): Water retains the heat. Biggest impact is how the heat is lost, which isn't by volume, but by area (of walls, floor and surface). The other thing is that up to 90% of heat is lost due to evaporation.

This is what I am thinking. It might be doable but there would be prep steps to follow . The existing tile would need some roughing up to give that "very special" thin set a surface to allow the new tile to adhere to the old tile. I guess. It's a gamble. Experiment in a corner.

I built my inground, indoor, saltwater, lap pool, with a waterfall. I did all the work myself, except when the concrete truck came. That's when I had some neighbors help. No machines. 7 months working part time. It's 8' x 36' and is 54" deep for short people. I had an electrician come to inspect my wiring. It has porcelain and glass tiles, 3/4 hp pump, fabric filter, 4 jets, skimmer, lights, and 2 floor drains. I paid $3,380 for materials. You can see it on youtube. It's not easy, but it's worth it. Fun, fun, fun! Watching Swimming Pool Steve's videos are the best way to start.

I had forgotten all about the "brown before your eyes" phenomenon. Decades ago when I was a kid, my parents had an above ground pool in a rural area and they filled it the first time with well water and then yup - poured in the chlorine and I remember it changing to brown very quickly. Nobody had any idea what happened until they went and had the water tested and explained it was filled from a well. From then on, refills were only via. a tanker truck they paid to come bring water.
@Swimmingpoolsteve15 күн бұрын
@Paul-jp8zz yup thats exactly what happened and how to deal.with the problem in the easiest way possible - truck in water for filling is better than using low quality or contaminated well water.

Hi Steve, have you had any experience with the ZeroChlor system? We've had one installed since 2021, and been generally very happy with it. Would be interested in your opinion on it's efficacy.
@Swimmingpoolsteve17 күн бұрын
@sethfree1 if that is a mineral system I do not endorse them. I definitely do nor endorse any system which advertises the use of no chlorine, and honestly if you knew what I knew and have seen what I have seen you would not pursue chlorine free systems for recreational swimming waters in an open environment either. The things that dirty water can harbor are some the scariest, most insidious illnesses that I could name. Safety first!
@sethfree117 күн бұрын
@Swimmingpoolsteve thank you for the reply! Not a mineral system. It is an AOP system with UV chamber, titanium array, copper array, advanced filtration (staged activated glass in an over-sized sand filter housing that filters down to 1 micron), and a variable speed pump operating 24/7. They claim the technology is deployed in residential and commercial pools and water attractions in Europe, Africa & the Middle East.
@Swimmingpoolsteve17 күн бұрын
@sethfree1 sounds cool - I will probably like it except for the advertising of no chlorine. Copper (and silver) do not act within an acceptable time frame to be safe enough to protect against swimmer to swimmer contact, nor recently introduced contaminants. This is where chlorine is king. It is fast acting in this regard, and this is one of the four layers of protection water needs. There are different recreational water quality standards in different areas of the world. Where I live in Canada we have some of the strictest laws in the world about recreational and residential swimming pool water, and there are no acceptable zero chlorine solutions. None. However, as a peripheral system working with low, managed levels of chlorine I am all for it!

@Swimmingpoolsteve19 күн бұрын
@@LynnGardenhire-r6p your salt cell will last longer as each cell has a finite amount of chlorine it can make in its lifetime. If your pool needs less chlorine, you run your salt cell at a lower output, and it lasts longer than it would have otherwise.

My pool is much prettier with the covered off. We have three fences to keep people out. We have gotten tons of leaves and debris under the mesh cover and even sewage-smelling water stuck on top of the clogged mess. Having the covered pool sure off has enabled me to scoop leaves out keeping the water much cleaner than with the mesh safety cover. I m also able to keep an eye on the water level and ICE, assuring the water level doesn’t get too high. Does the safety cover keep the pool warmer, less likely to freeze? Now that I’ve got nearly 3” of ice, what should I do? Did I damage my pool with the ice?
@mknmike20 күн бұрын
Winter 2024-2025 I decided not to cover my pool for aesthetic reasons, and to also be keeping an eye on the conditions. It’s frozen nearly 3” thick now and I decided that it would be much better to have a floating iceberg than repeated pressure on the walls from growing freezing water. I am wondering what would be best to do at this point. I e already added heat tape around the edge to help melt the edges, but leaving it overnight caused the ice to grow thick again. So I went out to break it up again today, but now I’m worry mode about hitting the heat tape. What should I do? - put on my clear solar cover? - put the green mesh cover on to try and lock in some heat? - drain some water to make the ice melt faster? - any other ideas? I don’t “yet” regret not covering the pool, but the covered pool sure enabled “ignorance is bliss” only to open to a new leak each year from water height getting too high.
