I'm a college baseball player who throws 95 from the outfield. Arm bands, core workouts, and stretching everyday helped get me to that point. Lifting weights helped and so did long toss but those 3 are good starting points for younger kids. Felix Hernandez used to only do bands when he was younger and up till his teens. He claims that this helped him reach the 90s on the bump. You'll also notice King Felix has not had TJ surgery in his career thus far.

Thank you man I’m in high school as a freshman and don’t have the velo I’m wanting for my size. Do you think you could tell me some more specific lifts that could help
@LukeSpookem2 жыл бұрын
@@devonjones5222 If you’re a big kid your issue might be in your mechanics or not being flexible enough. Flexibility in the arm will create more whip as you throw resulting in higher velo. Overall flexibility will help as well. In terms of lifting you’re young but now is the perfect time to get into a lifting routine. 3 to 4 times a week hit chest/triceps, back/biceps, and legs. Core workouts and stretching should be implemented at the end of every workout. The 4th day should be a cardio/agility day to work your fast twitch muscle fibers. If you commit to a work out plan, throwing program, and eating right you’ll see improvement. I would also look into lessons to have someone take a look at how you throw so that it can be optimized. Make sure you have someone video you throwing because that will allow you to see what you’re doing wrong rather than going off feel and what another person is telling you.
Thank you so much I have been looking for pitch velocity videos all over KZbin!❤

I boomerang pretty hard, I catch differing throw patterns like S's, 9's and Q shapes, it requires more throwing velocity than normal O loops. This is extremely useful info for increasing throwing strength and elasticity as hip to shoulder is huge!

this is a great workout for both, but I would say probably more for pitching because I do a lot of bands and I'm going to be a senior this year and i do the first 2 drills in the vid and i think this is more suited for a pitcher but probably helps with in Feilding too.

@franklobo58765 жыл бұрын
Keith, never too late but I read your comment about locations. Cut the mound in half meaning throw from 30 feet then when he commands that, move back 5 feet and so on. He may need several attempts or days to command a certain distance. Use this as his bullpen sessions on off days and never the day after a game. Always condition the day after with some good jogging. This cleans the broken blood vessels and will reduce the toxins entering his muscles. I am a High School pitching coach in California and also run a college summer ball team. Good luck but remember, same motion, arm speed and don't force it.

I can't hit a curve ball. I just can't hit it. Even if I pick it up, I never square it up and hit it solidly. I feel like Pedro Cerrano. Do you have any tips for hitting curve balls? I really like your style of coaching by the way. I watch all of your videos and intend to show and teach my son your tips and drills, when he's ready and if he wants to learn.
@LukeSpookem7 жыл бұрын
nosmokingzone For me I can pick up the spin of a curveball as soon as it leaves the pitchers hand. Thus I know to keep my weight back and think middle to opposite field. The biggest thing I see with players is that they get too much weight over their front side (front foot). Therefore you might hit a fastball fine but with off speed your shoulder and hips will fly open causing you to be out infront and miss the ball. You need to learn to keep your weight back and trust your hands. The majority of your power comes from having quick hands so trust them and they'll take care of you. Good drills that help with curveballs are having someone give you front toss and occasionally just don't flip the ball. When they go to give you a feed and they don't flip the ball, one of two things will happen. One, your weight will be over your front side or you feel like your leaning forward and you'll know your out infront and need to stay back. Or two, you will be in a good loaded position with your weight back ready to hit any type of pitch, this is what you want. Another good drill is during front toss, have your partner bounce the ball to you occasionally. This is a good way to simulate an off speed pitch.
@nosmokingzone7 жыл бұрын
iReAcHzzx I like it. Thanks for your input. I get nervous to keep my weight back in case a fastball comes. My hands are fairly quick but I'm going to work on keeping the weight back.

@godbacks096 жыл бұрын
Every time I throw any kind of ball from a long distance I have to throw it way up in the air because it pretty much dives almost straight down at the end (many times when I throw from much past like 70 feet it falls well short of the intended target. When I played baseball I played outfield and when I would have to go back and throw the ball from deep in the outfield the cutoff man had to sprint way out into the outfield to take my throw because my throw otherwise wouldn’t make it to the cutoff man) I can never get any kind of zip on it and I always flick my wrist and rotate my hand like a pitcher does when throwing a curveball, and I have tried numerous times to quit flicking my wrist and rotating my hand when I release the ball but it seems that it’s just something that naturally happens when I go to throw because I cannot for the life of me break the habit.
