Decided to use this as an experiment in a summer league (HS level) we never trapped and used the crown of the diamond to influence the ball handler, we shut out the corners by having the wings simply play the passing lane when the ball handler was on the wing, the lead defender simply dropped to the free throw line as if it was a 2-3 and the center dropped to splint the boxes with the warrior, it was essentially a hybrid between 2-3 and 1-3-1. Im a teacher and during the school year i coach both our JV and V boys teams (middle school), and they have adopted this defense as well, we simply ignore 3 point shooters and trap as much as possible, theyve been SLAUGHTERING with it, this defense despite its flaws is so versatile and can be used at multiple levels of hoops

It really is. Like any zone there are weak spots thankfully. Get behind that 1-3-1 to the short corners, overload, pass and cut and attack the gaps.
