Deer hunting is something that takes time to get "good" at. One of the best ways to learn how to do something is to find people who are already good at it consistently, and figure out what they're doing. So in this video we are going over four habits of highly successful hunters so you can start to think like them.

A couple of things that help me be successful every year is 1 hunt the wind. 2. During the rut hunt creek bottoms or funnels between doe areas. 3. Hunt the weather if you can. No use stinking up your good areas on a 75 degree day, find cool spots in a creek bottom or just a bottom. 4. If you're hunting public land learn the escape routes of the deer. Most guys go far from parking so sit by parking. You'd be amazed how many deer sneak up and hide there or jump the fence to private. 5. Scout in January or February, a lot of trails. Rubs. Scrapes are visible and deer usually use the same areas year after year and once you learn them your farther ahead than the guys scouting in September and the deer are not using those areas yet because in a summer pattern. Just a few things I do and I usually get a mature buck year after year on public.

One thing I found on public land, walk from point to point on trials most used NY people and ATV's. Those trails have human scent all of the time. That is not alarming to wildlife. Approach your sit from one of those trails in the best direction. My plan in the early buck season almost worked except the deer came out right where my line of sight was obstructed but the plan was solid for finding an animal. More learning experiences done. My success was during the regular rifle season this year on grazing leases as I've commented on another video. Same principle of walking where human smell was normal and staying off other places to not spook deer. I'm a second year hunter and still have much to learn.

The deer get used to those atvs on the trials and don’t think too much of the traffic. That’s a great entrance and exit strategy.

Amen. I’m 53. Been hunting as long as I can remember. My dad took me as soon as I was big enough. I still pay attention to what other people have to say. You can’t never tell when you may learn something. Im a pretty successful hunter. But I put a lot of time in it.

Spend time in the woods, spend time in the woods. Scent control bottom line is we stink and you will never get close to any deer because they will scent you and be long gone way way before you are going to see them.

My mom once told me the reason why I wasn’t seeing any deer and coming home empty handed was because I had Covid (just a joke) The deer know I have Covid so they stay away from me. That sure helped my confidence. Lmfao. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The one common denominator they all have good places. To hunt. I hunt where there is few deer. And little sigh no rubs. But my grandfather was a big hunter. He killed a eleven legal bucks in,one season. And one time he killed 3 bucks in one day. He aleays kept deer dogs. And must have killed 150 deer in his life time. But he had a good place to hunt. Any body van look good when there is plenty of sign and deer and easy terrain. Some of just will mever have that it doesn't mean your not a good hunter like going fishing in a pond that has few fish you may be a world class fisherman but if they ain't no fish you ain't gonna catch much,,,
