Maybe you have addressed this in the past, but I am excited to hear you talk about the half step above the root in the context of techno. What you are really talking about-Phrygian mode! Techno is built for different modal explorations, right!? Same root bass note constantly played with a melody played on top. The different modes do not really work for enhancing chord progressions, BUT the different modes really work if there is just a melody. Guess what? Techno is perfect for that. -Rich
@chromatic45734 жыл бұрын
I get your point, but please try modes for harmony as well. Dorian is probably the most common one and is used alot in blues, funk and jazz fusion. Am7 (I), D9 (IV), for instance,is a nice dorian blues progression. E (I) to Am (IV) is a nice vamp and constantly switching between major and minor. The underlying scale of this harmony is mixolydian b6, a mode of melodic minor. There is so much more to explore in harmony if you are interested and its definitely worth it. But yeah, one underlying drone or chord makes modal exploration extremly easy.

Hello, I'm trying to reproduce the pattern 3 sound with another Synth. Could someone tell what he is doing at 10:23? what is this parameter of the VCO he set on "16'" ? Sounds like it turned the OSC 1 an octave down. But then I wonder what the 32', 16', 8', 4' and 2' on the knobs stand for? Is there any equivalent feature on Massive or Serum. Amazing video by the way! Thanks!
@trirandom3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Gibson thanks for the explanation, all fine then ! I usually see values in semitones for pitching osc that's why I was confused. Anyway there is no such thing like the trimmer tab on serum nor massive X, so I had to improvise. To get somewhat close I used massive with a lot of detuned things here and there, I duplicate it, tweaks some knobs the other way around. Then I sampled them (cause my cpu didn't followed), duplicate the sample again, and tune it one octave down.
