This is INSANELY AMAZING! I know that most water bottles are PET and I assumed they would need to be shredded and melted to make a usable filament but man, this is an ingenious "Simple" way to make great use of it! I have been using PETG for anything that needs to be waterproof but using PET like this is insanely useful! I will get into "Simple" recycling like this and make some amazing prints!

The colours do you have achieved with just a marker is way more vibrant than readily available, Filaments that you can buy from other filament suppliers

Amazing creative engineering ! :-) I guess you could also 3d-print a holder for the color capsules, a bit like a hotdog. Maybe cut the capsule in two, on the long side. Then put one halve of the capsule in the top part of the holder and the other part of the capsule in the lower part of the holder... and then clip this hotdog over the filament. This would make it possible to easily change color _during_ printing... to get multi-color objects .. just dreaming here... I guess it will be much harder to realize it /chriV

Sounds interesting. If you make this please share :) but easier way would be replacing the color capsule during the print ( but it would be a little boring I guess)

@@makersfunduck I'm still dreaming further.... does the filament have to go _through_ the ink capsule? I wonder if it is enough if we position a marker on top of the filament, so that it "writes'" on the filament as passes by. If that works, then several markers can be put next to each other.. as "in series".. over the filament as it passes by, but the markers would not (yet) touch the filament. Each marker could then be held by a linear actuator (I recovered a few of those from broken laserprinters that I got for free).. they are a solenoid that looks like a relay.) When the solenoid is activated, it pushes the marker down 1cm so it touches the filament. Now we can select the color from software. :-) Anyway... dreaming it up is the easy part. Making it work is something else. I don't even own a 3d printer... I'm just fascinated with making something useful from waste. That's why I like your project so much :-)

You can color the inside of the bottle before cutting it into strip.

Are you using highlighters? Or permanent markers?

both:) end color might surprise you though. usually it is quite lighter than what you see on a paper
