why Santiago was reliable

in my case i would take lessons how writers write their stories. writers treat their characters bad so that they look good to the critics and readers. hemingway played so much god to santiago letting him hook fish too big for him to handle, hemingway let him make the mistake of harpooning the fish so that it bled attracting sharks. when he got to shore everything of fish was eaten by sharks except the head. writers make their characters failures for their stories to be success.
