For belt sanding, you need to adjust the vertical plate until it supports the back of the belt. You do NOT use the fence when using the mitre jig- dangerous!

What a horrible machine. Definitely as far away from a safe and sound solution as it gets. No actual craftsman in this world would consider this even just a remotely viable option.
