INFJ quirks they had that I relate to: -The walls in their house painted white to lessen sensory distraction -lots of pausing to gather the right words while talking -lots of head nodding and mmhmms and yeahs to show they’re listening -they all take turns to talk and make sure no one gets left out -the deep focused stare -encouraging each other -stiff shoulders

I'm an INTJ and I DEFINITELY have a monologue in my head where it's as if I am explaining something to some invisible person or I'm practicing explaining or teaching something to some invisible entity. I don't HEAR it with my ears though. But it's definitely a monologue that can go on for awhile, several minutes. I always think it's strange and odd but it feels totally normal and beneficial to me. I couldn't even begin to stop it. I don't do it deliberately but just find it happening. I figure it is just my Te trying to activate because I live alone so my Te has no-one to talk to so I guess it's just expressing itself through an imaginary conversation. And a lot of times I'll start saying the monologue out loud. It's as if I am literally talking to someone but I'm the only one in the house. I do this almost every day. I find it helps me process information. Usually it happens when I'm trying to explain some concept that I've been learning. Like it's a way to deepen my understanding.
@voodaii
@voodaii 3 жыл бұрын
I had a similar experience, but ended up making it stop. (I'm an INTJ also btw) When I was younger I noticed it was taking up a lot of time. Once I realized I was explaining something that I already knew, I started to just absorb the understanding instantly and I could move on. I traded some proficiency in communication for some additional time. Maybe someone can relate to this. Or maybe I just killed my conscience and I guess this a warning message. 😈
@hfortenberry

@@voodaii YES!! I feel exactly the same way! I totally relate! I almost always recognize that I already know what I'm saying so why waste time repeating it. LOL It's like I'm practicing it to death. So I will often stop myself and move on to something else. But at some level I think it does help me process further. It's just that I don't allow that processing anymore with topics that are not related to one of my goals. Don't want to waste that time.

@@voodaii Maybe I'm on your path. Maybe not. I find it restricting my intuition into words just like how someone tries to explain ther thoughts to someone else and fails, and i hate it. Great video. I've heard a group of INFJs can be really quiet, but you did an awesome job Joyce of giving everyone a chance to speak. 4 proper INFJs. Really impressed at the great listening, the repeated nods, everyone calmly waiting for their turn to speak. You all got the INFJ stare and those deep eyes that look like you are seeing through people and been through a lot. You all seem so similar, yet are completely different at the same time. The patterns of the INFJs really come through though in this video (or from an Ni:Te perspective): -Humble -The INFJ catchphrase 'does that make sense?' -Saying sorry a lot. Perhaps, INFJs apologize too much (or maybe I am just an arrogant INTJ, LOL) -The self doubt (e.g. regarding your possible type) -Modesty (you all seem in awe of each other) -The love of deep topics and philosophical subjects. The discussion was so interesting too! You ladies are like the fantastic 4! Keep up the awesome work!

That thing Susan said about being "empathic about movies", she just spoke my mind :D! I love all those slow psychological movies that other people find boring, just because I'm able to feel exactly what the characters are feeling, it's almost like I'm becoming them for a moment and it's fascinating. Sometimes I can get too invested though and then I'm feeling down for a few days. But I love it anyway :p

I needed this sooooo much ! I can’t even believe how identical some of our thoughts are on everything from feeling lonely because no one can seem to connect on a deep level to the topics we bring up , to my thoughts on what would make this world a better place, on empathy . Everything , not a thing you guys mentioned wasn’t something I also have felt , thought or experienced. I have just recently been hurt by a friend who rather than engaging me in conversation around a subject I threw out to discuss but instead she projected her own negative feelings about it on to me . I realize now that she just didn’t understand I wanted to dive deep into the topic because I thought it was important. I wasn’t trying to challenge her 😢. Anyway lol , you guys really lifted my spirits . Thank you and I now want to binge watch INFJ’s discussing things lol.

I've also felt that a LOT in my life, Joyce where I tried to have a conversation and it was shut down almost every time (except with my INFJ Mom - but then we'd get off track via Fe/Te differences). It is totally like a barrier. I would be hurt and feel shocked/blindsided and rejected when people would act like "what are you talking about???". Or they'd say "you are too intense" or "stop being so serious and just have fun". Or they'd say I was talking about things that didn't matter. It was painful to be rejected that way because it was a rejection of my SOUL, my identity and I remember telling myself that I would never marry someone who I couldn't be myself with, which meant I may end up alone. Finally I learned that the only consistent way for me to relate to people is through my Te so I just started doing that instead and it helps. I did feel sad for a long time in my twenties about not having that outlet to talk with people who "got" my Ni musings. But finding MBTI has helped. Now I feel like as long as I have a strong NF presence in my life and I have a Te outlet, then I'm good.

I think infjs have this non forceful caring grace that makes them great leaders who can see potential in things and understand people. I truly believe they execute both thinking and feeling at the same time, which makes them very unique. Other types seems very set on one or the other. That point about internal monologue is amazing. I have it, but I didn't know that wasn't available to everyone. I can also think in pictures if I need to visualize something but it's not the default state. "Words" dominate the headspace almost 100% of the time. Sometimes I even *hum* my internal monologue to myself.

My comment is so late but I'm so happy that I came across this video. I related a lot with Emily on having an internal dialogue. The internal voice for me is usually most vocal when I am stressed which is most of the time in the NI-TI loop. I'm really glad that there are other INFJ's that can relate to having an internal voice.

I was just wishing the whole time that I was having the conversation with you all. I related to every single thing. P.S. I have an inner dialogue and just assumed that's what thoughts were for everyone. I'm so shocked to hear that there are other ways of thinking. I honestly thought that was what thinking was. I definitely see visuals too but mostly accompanied by the voice. Such fascinating stuff. Would love another round of this!

The internal monologue is my own but if someone is speaking I attach images or an experiential video. This often results in laughing at a joke before the person reaches the punchline because I am imagining the scene. I talk myself through stress or to find peace. I didn’t always hear it but after some major stressors I adopted this to speak affirmations to myself in my mind. I also appreciate my inner monologue because I like to use it to check that my thoughts are clear and my own. My idealized world... one with no pain and one focused on humane values. I loved that book Nonviolent Communication. The way Marshall speaks in videos though remind me of myself and how I speak when I’m annoyed with someone trying to give them advice 😆 I don’t like standardized education either but I don’t believe that people who haven’t been able to master higher education skills and knowledge should pass either. I’d like a surgeon or attorney to have applicable skills operating in good faith that they can actually help me. I did recently tell my professor, “It’s interesting how school encourages quiet students to speak up and participate for a grade but no one is encouraging extroverts to quiet down and participate less.”

Completely agree with all of your visions of an ideal world! This is why personal development is so important. The more people are able to see and accept the value that is already within them, the less inclined they would be to de-value others and the more tolerant they could be with those that seem like "other" (which is just an illusion anyway). This should definitely be a series, Joyce! :)

ENFJs usually have *major* internal verbal monologues. Witty, often snarky, almost always people-centered, clarity that cuts to the core, and funny as all get out. They don't often say it, it all depends on who is around them and how they are reading their social context in the moment.

YES. This conversation had me feeling energized! Joyce, what you said at the 29- 31 minute mark is really spot on about existence and loneliness. I think it's reminiscent of mirroring in psychology. When a baby isn't mirrored, it doesn't get a firm sense of self and won't feel understood. Your thoughts resonated with me and just- thank you.

Yesss - intuitives don't get their thoughts mirrored back to them (because 75%-60% of the population are sensors) so they're at a higher risk of growing up without a firm sense of self. Thank you for understanding my POV, that infjgirl. :) You really helped 'mirror' my thought process back to me and that was incredibly reassuring.

Whether or not you hear a mental voice or not is such an interesting topic. Personally I rarely think to myself verbally, and when I output my thoughts my brain automatically converts the intuitional frequency or concept into verbal form. Very interesting topic this.

When Susan was talking about her ideal world and she mentioned what is happening in the political discourse, what she's referring to is called Splitting (also black and white thinking or all or none thinking). People who have fear surrounding listening to views different from their own will try to use aggressive language or black and white language to force your words into a very simplistic meaning. They put words in your mouth or twist your meaning and it's super frustrating. Like you will say "I believe diversity is beneficial" and they'll say "So you like criminals coming here?!" They equate things that are not necessarily correlated because they are unable to get the nuance in your statement. They NEED to emotionally connect (or keep apart) those two different thoughts because otherwise their worldview would feel as if it is being threatened, even though it's not. Splitting is actually a symptom of mental illness such as narcissism but it happens in less severity in a lot of people.

An ideal world for me is one where everyone tries to connect more with each other. I would often go outside to have a cup of coffee by myself and hear someone dealing with a problem and it pains me that I can't just come up to them and help them in some way... I wish people could sit down at a table without knowing each other prior to that and be able to hold wholesome conversations as if they were family. I imagine an ideal world where everyone puts in equal amounts of effort to better humanity as a whole, where everyone is happy to help each other in some way, where I do my job not because I'm expecting a paycheck but because I simply *can* help someone with the knowledge and power that I have, and everyone else does the same with progress within society as their goal in life. In this ideal world, people would try to understand each other more and nobody would ever try to diminish another's free will or force themselves on someone for the sake of their own monetary pleasure...

When Megan said small thing about Religions being one and the same in their core, with one start - different pathways - and same end, that made me spill my coffee, since it is exactly what I say in those words hehe 😅 Its like a lantern in the dark that guides you to clear path. Kinda relate to many aspects you girls talked about and some stuff I viewed bit differently! Deffinetly great video.

Pucokie, well yes I have complete conversations talking with others and responding. I also design invent things and change things as I go and can see the whole thing in my head and determine if they will work or not or modify on the fly all in my head. Saves slot of time designing.

Yeah totally about the ISFJ vs INFJ!! For a long time I wasn't sure if my Mom was ISFJ or INFJ just based off reading the type descriptions. Then I discovered the cognitive functions and it was a no brainer after that and I knew for sure that she was an INFJ. I wish I'd discovered the functions while she was still alive. I feel like I could have bonded with her more if I had known. 😢

Hi Joyce , I'm an INFJ as well and I was on the globe lie discord server and out of the 12 core members of the group, 7 of us were INFJ's , it was quite remarkable , I guess the reason we were drawn to that forum flat earth and looking for truth would of made the odds a little less, however we were all men so that would make the odds even more remarkable I guess. It was very interesting, I really related to what you ladies were saying . When you were discussing the ideal world, Susan Storm nailed it children should absolutely be nourished and their gifts explored , there is nothing more important than children, and I think a mark of progress or scale of how well a civilisation are doing is when an old man would ask a childs advice or view of something that was of value to all people , I also think one of the biggest tragedies is the wasted potential of children and not through any fault of their own . Thank you Joyce I really found your video insightful and it was fun too , much love from Australia .

Susan @45:11. Beautiful ☺️ ☺️. I respected and listened to my children and others would say I let them disrespect me. No no no. I was listening for “their” thoughts!!! 😭. We may end up disagreeing and me make the final judgment call but they are allowed to think and to feel. I have been wrong so often and my children helped me see that. Love this discussion.

Thank you! I'm learning a lot from your videos. Makes the other YT vid seem shallow. Am I an INFJ? I took the test online with truity and MBTI. Extravert was in the middle. I guess the diagnoses lol could be off on type but all categories except introvert extravert seemed to be spot on but idk? After testing 3 or 4 times once I did test extravert but it was during a time when I was forced to take a sales position which I hated.

I think both intuitive functions are "big picture". But more specifically, Ne is WIDE or BROAD picture, and Ni is LONG or HIGH picture. It sounds a little weird, but it seems to keep with the metaphors while drawing an accurate distinction between the two. I worry that calling Ni BIG picture will confuse people because people commonly associate that phrase with a broad spectrum of details or possibilities.

I always keep coming back to that i am a INFJ male. I always have this detached third perspective view of things. And always seem know what would improve people to make them better. Also relate to the "baiting" as i am often putting out these "tests" seeing what level i can connect with someone at...often settling. And left somewhat disappointed. I have came to conclusion that you can only meet people where they have met themselves.

@44:00 🥲😭. Beautifully stated ❤️❤️❤️ Joyce. Keeping respect for others while still having opposing views. @Joyce Meng: Also what you said earlier about how fascinating that people can read the questions on the MBTI diversely, and that we all have our flesh suits but brains process differently 🧠 🙌🙌. (God is so Awesome!) So what I did was take the test (actual MBTI administered test) and then have an ENTP, INFP & INFJ adult children also take it, as they saw me. They were so sweet to do it. So, I am an ENFP 5w4. The ENTP saw me as a ENFJ, the ISFP saw me as an ESFP and the INFJ saw me as an ENFP (I think, it’s been awhile). I thought that was a fascinating result based on the other person’s perception.

I don't sense that I'm in some default mode trying to make people feel good. As far as I can tell they tend to be doing the outward version of feel good well enough. It's a vocal minority who are claiming that life is an endless struggle to connect. Then there is the whole thing about life actually being so much more than just human interactions with each other. The fact that we are here at all is such a mind-blowing experience. Human connection, while sweet, is just a slice of the whole. Carry-on...

By audible internal monologue, do you mean a monologue you can hear just like with your ears, or just that your thought is in word form like your talking in your head? Like in a way you hear it audibly but without the vibration that actual sound makes? If the latter, i have that. It's like i'm actually talking in my head and i can hear my voice but without the actual vibration of auditory sound. Is that what you mean by monologue or is it actually auditory sound exactly the same way you hear with your ears?

I thought something was wrong with me for the longest time because I use Ni-ti when explaining emotions to people , and for most people, this feels odd to them like I’m cold or something. What's a good way to get an accurate type? I have thought I was like 5 different types at different points. I was thinking I was an ENFP most recently but then I did a cognitive functions test and it said based on my results I'm most likely an INFJ and after reading some descriptions about that I can definitely relate to a lot of that too. But they're completely opposite so I'm wondering if maybe I was thinking ENFP because it's what I want to be more than what I actually am. But relate more to ENFP so also maybe I'm just damaged and so test backwards. This is sort of driving me crazy because I want to interact in online communities but don't want people seeing stuff I say and thinking that's a specific types behaviour when it's actually a different types. HELP!!!
@TheLeftCulprit
@TheLeftCulprit 2 жыл бұрын
Look up cognitive functions. Look around for as many descriptions as you can and see which ones sound like ways you think/interact with the world. Then look up the function stacks. Each type has a different stack and the stack determines which funtions you prefer over others. So INFJ is Ni-Fe-Ti-Se. ENFP is Ne-Fi-Te-Si i *think*. You can relate to multiple types but there should be one you see yourself in the most.

At around 41:00. People say Hitler was INFJ and I don't agree with that typing. I think he was more ISTJ, based in my perspective of his talents and personal motivations, but people just say he was unhealthy. I just don't think that's enough to justify an INFJ typing. I just think what they base his typing on was just the propaganda being used at the time and shouldn't be aligned with being attributed to his type as he knew it was just a propaganda tool to motivate the pubic.
