Good advice. Also, start the ride with the bike in perfect condition. Make sure you can charge your phone or powerbank while riding. I use a small rucksack with a drinking bladder and sip water all the time... Bringing tools or kits - make sure you also know how to use them. Do a preflight check every day, at least visually check tires, brake pads, brake fluid, coolant, oil and chain slack. Make sure any luggage is securely fastened. Clean and lube your chain every second tank of fuel. Thank you for sharing.

One most important tip for the GPS is to download the maps or route in advance. Don't rely on cellular data because it will cut out at some point. Booking is tough to decide. Where I live, pretty much everything is full all the time in the summer, so you can't just go without a booking. It's extremely frustrating to have to plan it all, but good planning would make it easier to not be in a rush.

So true, having the maps downloaded is an important one. Good planning seems to be the key, which you get better at over time. I probably will book all my stays in advance again, hopefully this time with better ETAs in mind :)

i toured with a tank bag which housed my power bank charging my phone on a quadlock. i prefer it this way because i don't want to rely on the bike's battery. the phone screen can be a little dim but that's why that cardo is useful for voice turn by turn navigation. I also got some panniers to house my raincoats, food and water etc. if there was anything i'd add to it is a windshield even if it was small like a dart. i am glad the t120 came with cruise control cause i used that so much.

Hi, just come back from riding Scotland’s NC500 and used the beeline to navigate there and back. What I have learned from using this nav aid for a couple of years is that I always write a sequential list of the major towns and associated road numbers and keep in the map pocket on my tank bag for a quick reference. It has helped me a few times when there are more or less exits of roundabouts than the beeline calls out. If I am navigating in a city (which isn’t often) I use google maps on the phone, just easier. Your other points are well made, kit etc. the booking ahead one I think depends on where you are headed and the availability of accommodation. For the NC500 it’s essential. Thanks for posting… ride safe.

Nice to hear your experience and also great tip for those more complex intersections. I now switched completely to using my phone with the Quadlock mount and TomTom Go App. Will give it a proper test on my next trip to Italy :) Cheers

I like a loose plan, book accomodation day by day. Since I'am solo traveling, I have never found it difficult to find hotel who do not have a spare room. Navigation vise, yes, a goid GPS and know how to use it. GPS instructions via bluetooth head set is awesome compared to having to focus on a screen. Prepare the bike, before the trip, so you dont have to worrie about brake pads, tyre, oil or chain to wear out during trip. Yes tyre rep kit, and mini compressor, and practice how to use it! And I aggree with you, the scenic view and riding through the landscape, exploring, is what makes this way of traveling so enjoyable. As of video capturing, I'am not sure. Its too much hazzle, but I am bringing with me too much gear, lap top, chargers, goproes you know. The trick is to film when the right moment is there. But one never know, until too late... so one tend to record all the time... and never get sorted out the highlights afterwards.

Great presentation. Thoughtful and fresh viewpoints! I drove several hundred miles in the UK in 2022, and without Apple Maps I would have been lost!

You air BNB d most of your trip? Depends on your agenda I’d do bookings 24 hours ahead each evening . I have toured on naked bikes and fully blown adventure bikes. In my opinion wind protection allows you to travel much further. Seat comfort invest in a pair of decent cycling shorts (seriously). Add 20% on any GPS timings. Buy a decent flask and jet boiler you’ll save a fortune at service station. Good video thanks

what kind of flattyre kit You bring with you the next time? With spoke wheels you need tyre levers en a punctire kit for the innertube. A normal flattyre kit only works with tubeless tyres. Most of the time they are fited on castwheels
@hejrafa
@hejrafa 8 ай бұрын
Oh I take any recommendations on that front. Over the winter my bike gets new tires. I guess I‘ll start researching for a good kit :)

@@hejrafa You could maybe even convert the spoked wheels to tubeless by sealing them, It's something I'm interested in doing to my T120 for touring so I can just take plugs for punctures.

I'm kinda interested to know where your ambition lies with your film-making? What channels are you watching and influenced by?

That is a fantastic question Simon, one I am asking myself frequently. I think I want to explore telling stories on a motorcycle as well as showing my perspective on riding. Share mistakes and enjoy the journey. I came across MotoDes's channel and want to try her weekend trips this year. Also Freddie Dobbs is a charismatic fellow who creates stunning content. I can't wait to pick up my Triumph from winter storage and learn the ways of film making through travels. By the way, started listening to your first podcast episode, awesome idea and concept.

@@hejrafa I would definitely encourage you to concentrate on story/narrative. This is what I am usually drawn to, as there is a lot of mediocre motorcycling footage on KZbin. It doesn't necessarily need to be the spoken word, either direct to camera or narrated over the top of the visuals, but there needs to be a story to the visuals. This is the theme that keeps coming through when I speak with film-makers.

Bro talks so slow... takes a bit too long for my taste to get to the point. But sure, some good info. A Garmin 396 or the 55 are way better since they also have all the smaller and lesser known roads and unpaved pathways on their maps cars cannot take but motorcycles can. The screen is also a lot bigger. And your smartphone will break eventually from the vibration on the bike steering wheel. Also the average smartphone screen lacks brightness and consumes battery a lot faster.

Yeah you’re right. Not as comfortable yet talking in front of a camera. Totally working on it :)

@@theyshouldhavenevergivenme5439 I guess you missed the memo that you can easily change the playback speed to 1.25x, 1.5x, etc., as I automatically did for this video, as well as so many others. Try this before you make such an unhelpful comment.
