Spencer in studying the difference with Takt Planning vs. CPM you achieve both in P6. Its not the software its the methodology. Using WBS, Activity Codes, Grouping, Sorting, Filtering, Crew Logic you can represent the Data in the same modeled format as Takt specific Software. With CPM you always still have to consider QTYs and Areas. Takt Planning seems to assume you can just smooth all the durations for work packages to be the same and also assumes the Work areas the same. This is never the case, or extremely rare hence the Opportunity Gaps between the work Packages created by Activity in each package with the longest duration, this can be realized and managed in P6 just the same. It seems that Takt planning is a fancy term for a portion of the Schedule Development process that has always been a part of CPM scheduling. It is called work Breakdown Structure and in proper application it is not only Systems based but also Location based derived from Programmatic Data generating during Estimating QTO. Activity codes can be used to group work packages and arrange the Gantt to show the trade flow and work flow. Its all in the formatting and methodology not so much at all the Software.

CPM does not equal P6 and all of the strategies to try and show the data that you pointed out I have used for years, I disagree with you on one major point, that there is an assumption on being able to level the work, I agree the standard way of building a WBS is not typically looked at close enough to level the work properly, there is some great work out of P2SL (a research lab out of UC Berkley) where a term work density has been studied extensively, I highly suggest you check it out, if you need help finding it please message me. AS far as the rest of the claims of being able to show the same thing a takt plan can, I totally agree as that is where I started, but I no longer think CPM is helping anyone but lawyers.... and unless you are a lawyer... I bet the amount of time you spend in a schedule is more than a typical takt plan as the information is much more user friendly and doesn't need as much management as a typical CPM schedule would (notice I don't say P6). As a backup check out the empire state building..... they didn't use CPM as it wasn't invented yet and all the production principles they used for that project is what Takt Planning is.... Thanks for the comment.

👏 “The system is working against us.” -Spencer The algorithm is designed not to help us in design and construction. I love how you found a way to use a CD case in a novel way. 🤜🤛

I have an old stack of these and it just happened, and it never was more useful in it’s lifespan then as my proverbial activity in my float explanation.
