Weld-in a 4-link rear suspension system onto any street rod chassis. Here, we are adapting RideTech's 4-link to a 1948 Ford pickup truck, however the process is very similar for most applications. We cover axle location, panhard bar fitment and theory and shock absorber angle tips. For more information on this universal 4-link system, visit www.ridetech.com/products/bol...

This is a great introduction into the basics of setting up/fabricating a 4 link. I've got a project in mind maybe a year out of converting a v8 swap, fwd sports car to rwd conversion mostly for street/drag racing and this really helps give me some idea on how it can be done and what parts are available. Thanks.

@vcarreon17: Depending on the size of the C Notch, yes and no. By the looks of this C notch, they will either have to begin cutting into the bed or raise the floor of the bed. However, there do exist some notches which can be welded in which do not come up past the stock location of the bed floor. All depends on how low you want to go.

Yeah, i'm thinking they previously found that ride height would be perfect when the top of the axle is welded to the frame, (must want to slam it on the ground) @0:56 They have a spacer in place, so that must be a ride height they were trying out, but wanted it lower in the end. So get your measurements and ride height set. Weld axle solid to the frame in ride height position (including pinion angle). Then fab up your link kit. Just my guess. For what it's worth.

ok look here @ the 1.37 mark of this vid. You have a drawing that shows the engine and pinion angle the same and even state that you want them parallel. Now you can have them paralle, but the angles can NOT be the same as you show in the drawing. They have to off set eachother. so if you have -3 for the motor you have to have +3 for the pinion. That is so important that if on the build the engine and pinion happen to be at the exact height you must push 1 pull the other. in order to create that off set.

Holy crap... Why'd you make that panhard bar so short? On factory applications like 82-2002 GM F bodies the bar runs from one rail in the unibody almost to the other end of the axle. Same on like an Escalade or Avalanche. I was thinking to myself "if I was doing this I'd go watts link" so you get no side to side movement (or minimal at least).

Couldn't u do a lot Of the centering up with the leaf springs still on? Maybe break it down to the main lead so it's more flexible. Just wondering if I could 4 link my jeep myself the springs are on top the axles maybe just remove the ubolts put the brackets on and weld

An open hat channel is better for flexibility for the 4 bar, rather than tube which will not allow twist with different left right wheel bump motion... I understand the reason for using round shaft it's easy material to source, cut and fabricate...

Why not angle the top links like a mid-70's GM coil rear suspension to eliminate the need for a panhard rod and cause the rear axle to move up and down in a straight line instead of an arc?

I'm not sure what your thinking was regarding all the geometry set up with the axle welded to the frame when in reality it shouldn't you set pinion angle and all other angles when axle on ground with drive weight on frame at the height you want? Or have you assumed 0 is where it is at where it is welded?

Off road we want exact opposite widest track poss rear kicked opposite to direction we r big f-ing truck trying to turn or lockers trying to turn.
