For everyone wondering why his head looks so organic, it's because Industrial Automaton couldn't compete with Cybot Galactica's 3PO series of protocol droids (which were tailored for humans) so they designed the LOM series protocol droid to cater to niche alien species. Their target market encompassed most insectoid alien species such as Brizzt, Verpine, Xi'Dec, Yam'rii, and Gand. The LOM's features were sculpted to look generically "insect like" to suit a wide variety of species phenotypes. That's the legends version anyway, though I can't imagine it's changed for canon.

I'm glad elements from "Of Possible Futures" made it back into canon. It's one the most heart-warming pieces of Star Wars literature, and I hope to see more of 4-LOM and Zuckuss in the future.

I thought it was obvious that 4-LOM was a droid, coming off of Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy when I was 7. His torso looked similar to C-3P0, had a similar idle animation and he could access droid panel in that game.

@@swishfish8858 It seems to me like the Overwatch universe has non sentient Omnics (like those you see on Oasis and Rialto), and sentient Omnics like Zen, Bastion, and Orisa (she is just young). I imagine BOB is somewhere between the two, which is kinna dark considering he's sold in a box according to one developer.

On the upside, his nature as a protoco droid-turned bounty hunter does have some advantages... For example, he could easily speak with most sapient life-forms due to having all those languages incorporated into his original programming.

Go back and watch the original TV commercial. The character's name is 4 EL OH EM, not 4 Lom. Like C3PO and R2D2. It's an alpha-numeric name, not a word.
