What about the GF120mm f4 macro? It’s great for 0.5x, but with the extension tube for 1:1 isn’t the best.

Don't have one. Reason is, that I rather have the GF110 which is, in my opinion, their best lens and it can still do macro with some tubes.

The 110mm Fuji is pretty decent for macro work using the tubes and cropping the image - but the 120mm 4.0 Fuji is on a whole other level.

@@christopherleggettphotography As far as I can tell the focus breathing isn't as pronounced and the micro-contrast is quite a bit better, especially when you're getting close to 1:1. I've also found it to be a bit sharper at f11 - f13 all around (probably because it's a f4 lens) but especially in the corners, whereas the 110mm had its best performance at f5.6-9 and still does not quite catch up with the 120mm. Perhaps the 110mm I was using was a particularly bad example and yours is much better, that's quite possible! The only thing that I don't like about the 120mm is that it has no tripod collar. It's not a heavy lens but the balance would be a lot better if it had a tripod attachment, especially on the GFX100. On the GFX100S or 50S it's not as problematic because those as are bit 'shorter' - but still, a tripod collar would have been a good idea.

@@christopherleggettphotography Also: the optical stabilizer combined with the sensor stabilisation on the GFX100 and 100S allow you to hand hold some macro shots that were impossible before! For studio work this does not matter at all, but when shooting (slowly) moving insects, it's quite the experience!

@@Crispy_Bee I love learning and you made me have to look up Micro-Contrast. Thank you. 🙏🏻 As for what you say, I will bow to your knowledge and I don't owe a GF 120 to try and put up an opposing view. As for my GF 110, I have some rather good connections with Fuji Singapore, and the lens was chosen for me by them as being the pride of their litter. Now, about you wanting a lens mount...... Maybe Hartblei could make you one. They already make them as attachable for the Mamyia lenses that fit on to their adapters. If you are interested, I could start the ball rolling for you, as I help them with their prototypes. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5C7ZouVi92EsM0

Very interesting and helping video, thanks for that. I plan to buy the GF 80 f/1,7. Would it have a sense to use this lens with the tubes for macro ? or the GF 110 is a better solution ? Thank You.
@christopherleggettphotography
@christopherleggettphotography 4 ай бұрын
GF80 has been on my wish list for too long, so I am going to guess. The 80 MF is around 57mm expressed in a focal length of 35. As our eyes see the world in 35 focal length, it would stand to reason that the persecutive distortion, would then be a t a minimum.

Great to see the 110mm used in this way. And thank you for the broad context in terms of macro setups. Most of the high profile talking heads in the GFX realm only go over feature sets and provide basic lens comparisons for portrait and landscape work. This information I really needed. You’ve made it clear that with current software, focus breathing does not handicap final results, and obviously saves an enormous amount of time. Thank you.

Fantastic video, as always. Really like your style of making these videos. Was there a difference in number of photographs for each stack? My experience with the GFX100 is that it always makes a lot more photos than I feel are necessary to cover the depth of the object. What step-size do you use?
@christopherleggettphotography
@christopherleggettphotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Always good to hear. Hasselblad used 41 images, Hartblei 52, Mamiya 38, and Fuji 42. But i do share your opinion, that the Fuji usually (in auto mode) takes more images than necessary. Have taken some interior architectural ones where it shot 157 images, which then, when stacked, had all sorts of problems. As for step-size, as i understand it, this can only be controlled when shooting in Manual Mode. I shot the video, as one can see from the Atomos images, in Auto Mode.

I watched an astrophotography video recently where the guy (Cuiv the lazy guy) pointed out the torque exerted by his autofocus rig onto the lens mount could affect lens alignment due to the single point of rotation. It’s an interesting observation I never thought about but it makes sense. I suppose the ideal follow focus would utilise a planetary gear train in order to better counter this. Thanks for sharing this !

The Carl Zeiss Hasselblad Macro lens definitely looks the least sharp of the lot. For the rest, the Fuji lens seems the sharpest in the middle area, but looking at the bottom left corner it is mushy, with both the Hartblei 120 and the Fuji 140mm lens giving sharper results, to my eyes.

For me hartblei produces a better sense of depth in the texture, which could even have been caused by a small shift in the position of the light source. Was? I could tell Fujifilm looked a little fuzzy

Ciao Roberto, Hartblei has Zeiss optics which are hard to beat. As for the GF110, it was the only setup that had focus breathing. That might be the reason.

Well, why the commercials were playing in the beginning of the vid, I went to the link to check out the photos before watching the video. Like in the beginning of your comparison, I was naturally drawn into the brighter part of the photo & focused in on the white (as you call them noodles). I chose the Hassy first, Halbiet 2nd, Maymia 3rd, & the fuji last. But the first thing I noticed that the color of the 3 non Fuji lenses were all the same & the fuji was different. After watching your reviewing of the photos & seeing you zoom in on the brown noodles it hit me. Because of the lens set-ups, the Fuji photos were getting more light from the flash, IMHO! They don't call me speedy ( in a very slow speech) for nothing! Thanks for this vid because just before this I watched your 100 vs 100S differences vid & my thoughts threw the hole video was, I wonder if Fuji or someone else makes a macro lens for the GFX system? Subbed & happy shooting!
@christopherleggettphotography
@christopherleggettphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Read your message and it made me think too. Maybe the colour difference is due to the fact that LR recognises a GF lens and give it a preset adjustment. This, it could not do with the other lenses, as there is no electronic communication with them. As for GF macro lenses, Fuji does make the GF120mm macro.
