I learned this very recently, but apparently when the three yellow lines appear over your Pokémon, that means the boss is specifically targeting you for its next attack, and those attacks you are able to dodge by swiping left/right. The attacks that hit the whole group still cannot be dodged however.

Good try! I reckon you would have done even better if you had unlocked Max Guard (it's the key move IMO). My tactic: 1. Go in with my damage soak. 2. Swap in my best pokemon for the first max round. 3. Max Guard 3 times. (the raid boss will have to break all my shields first before my pokemon gets damaged). 4. In the future max rounds, top up shields with Max Guard if needed, otherwise, use max attacks. This will let your pokemon survive longer. (Also, I've found that even though each max round you have three max moves, you can blow all three moves using Max Spirit just one time iif your squad members all need healing. So if you want to use both attack & healing during a max round, leave the healing until last.)

@@Tagman50 This Japanese group tried a few times with 4 accs but couldn't do it with four. Got pretty close, but I reckon you need at least 5 high-powered teams. This is amazing! Thank you so much for doing this experiment! So, it's looking like 8+ players with lv 35+ pokemon that have at least 1 of the 3 moves maxed (ideally one of each or 2 with max attack & 1 with max heal) 'should' be able to 'just' defeat it provided people communicate & work together to get it done, yes? Or do you think it really needs at least 4 of 8 people to have counters at lv 40+, each with 2 maxed attackers & 1 maxed healer to be 'safe'?

Yeah that sounds pretty safe :) Difficulty changese each time with gengar changing movesets so keep at it 💪 With the moves on our second attempt I reckon we could've done with 6 easy

@@samporter2146 Most of our group are rural as well- we all travel into the closest city to play events. It didn't change anything tho, we still couldn't defeat it. People keep playing in cars rather than in person, so coordinating groups to ensure we had the best group counters possible simply didn't happen. At this point I doubt we'll be completing any Gmax battles at all as everyone was fed up after 2 Gmax events in a row being unbeatable.

I think another thing to note is the attack buff? Like the leaving pokemon at the powerstop. From wat i saw, its only 1/4 meaning if you had the 4/4 max attack buff u might have been able to clear it? I cannot say for sure as idk the calculations behind that

so from my understanding the boss has 2 different moves (one for the "personal" nuke and one for the "hit all" attack) and they re-roll every attempt? Is the "personal" move the same for every player? If yes just put Metagross and re-roll till Gmax G has poison or psycic moves and 8 decent players should have an easy enough time.

Was the same for every player in these instances yes, we only had 4 though so one complete group. I mention this as In not sure if the move could be different amongst different groups of 4 🤔

Does star piece work to boost the 25k reward? I remember lucky egg not working on some of the xp rewards for tier1 dynamax raids so just wanted to double check before using a star piece for these giga raids

have you seen the conversations that you should only use Fast Attacks? Charge and Fast Attacks supposedly charge up the Max Meter the same, but Fast Attacks are...duh, much faster, meaning the Max Meter fills up a lot faster with Fast Attacks only and supposedly you end up doing more damage with more D-max/G-max moves then you would using the slow Charge Attacks. The idea of course being something along the lines, if you use charge attacks, you get to do max moves maybe twice, vs if you only use fast attacks, you get to use the max moves thrice. Or something along those lines and the extra max attacks do more than the charge attacks would have done I am not convinced, but a lot of people seem to believe in this approach.

@@vforce226 I havent seen the numbers to prove that the overall DPS improves from using fast attacks is better thats all. Its probably correct, I just dont have enough information personally yet. Only heard general statements about it without any actual data to back it up. Me and some friends just took 2 g-max gengar with 15 accounts and we all used the charge attacks. In hindsight we should have tried once with Fast Attacks.

Yeah its a tough one tbh especially with the mechanic still so new. As far as I can tell though its dependant on the damage dealt rather than the frequency of the attacks. Take T1 Dynamax battles for instance... usually always reaches dynamax mode once the boss takes a certain amount of damage whether thats reached using 4 charge attacks OR 20 charge attacks if the boss is resistant to the moves and it takes longer. Whereas, use a charge move and it reaches that threshold faster to reach dynamax mode.

@@Tagman50 yup in the SiplhRoad reddit article they claimed for T1-T3 bosses you can gain more than 1 point twowards the meter using charge moves (so you should use them here) but in T6 theres currently no charge move in the game that can do enougth damage to generate more than 1 Max energy, hence only using fast attacks which each contribute a minium 1 point). Also worth noting this makes doging easier

Nope, doesn't resist as a ghost type (at least in pogo, I'm not sure about the main series or TCG games) and being poison adds the weakness. Yes metagross is super weak too ghost but the moves vary - the Gmax boss will cycle between 2 different charge moves from its move pool. Metagross is the hardest hitting counter we have besides gengar itself which is also super weak too itself but glassier. I suggest if attempting with a small team - Take note of the charge moves gengar is using, if it's bad for your counters. Jump out and start again. Gengars moves will reset to something else that might be easier to deal with.

I'd been wondering this yesterday too and glad to see that some out there have achieved it with slightly better counters than what we had. One player on the team had 2 counters at L40 and a L20 Greedent and all Max L1 moves so heaps of room for improvement on our part.

You're showing raw damage output, you should have one pokemon with max guard and suddenly your pokemon won't faint. I used max guard level 3 during the other raids and I finished with all 3 pokemon full health due to someone else using the healing once or twice. The other two just full attack and the guard user can attack so long as 2 shields are still up for all

Great to see everyones ideas and tactics, I've had counters faint before even reaching the first Max round haha so that one kinda misses out. Heres another one, its possible to kinda pick your moveset - by starting the battle and backing out if Gengars moveset isn't ideal. Keep jumping back in till you get the one you want. Ideally Sludge Wave, Sludge Bomb or Psychic. Increase efficiency by identifying gengars moves as early as possible and jumping out to reroll. Less need to guard if the moves dont hit that hard

But I also found doing 2 of them just now that maybe the g-max attack used by the boss will differ against the different groups of 4 in the same battle. One of our groups went down before the boss was even at half HP, vs the other two groups finished it with only a single pokemon down. could be other reasons ofc, less healing in that group that dropped or weaker pokemon in that group, but at least one in that group had good pokemon, on level with mine
