@vernon padilla 1927 - Not the "original" but earliest recording. Song was traditional melody with versions in Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Armenian. Most likely Arabic or Turkish origin but no one knows for sure.

i heard this song before i was born---ahhh misirlou, you oceans' daughter. i've been looking far for you. Can i call you my love, as Christine Dae. i wait for the day to be with you. While i sing and dream, you dance and speak of truths. i breathe in your words and ask you to sing, my angel. Far off one, so you are the daughter of sand? Will you ever come to me? Even in my dreams of day. i would be forever soothed.
